This was dumb as **** the last 4 failed coaching hires that you pulled this. It's not a fans job the have intimate knowledge of what coaches may have interest in a job.

No but basically those of us that do have some knowledge can tell you that you are looking at (1) A guy already on staff or (2) a coach from the MAC, C-USA or MWC. The chances of anyone doing better than Campbell is less than 5%. He has imperfections but it’s difficult to really comprehend unless you have been a fan since the 1980’s what exactly he has accomplished during his tenure.

No one to my knowledge in this thread is saying replace Campbell.

Campbell is the right person for the job. I don’t want him to leave, despite our frustrations. The frustrations for me is that in games that we loose, we seem to loose for the same stupid reasons; offense stagnant, not throwing down field or center of field, offense line still mediocre at best, special teams continue to be a liability.

But most important of all, playing in the margins. We our not as clean in our fundamentals as we need to be.

We’ve been told that Campbell makes changes to how he does things, which is great. But I think he needs to really evaluate the reoccurring problems and make bigger changes to the teams training and practices.

I honestly think people struggle with how difficult it is to consistently go 4-5 to 6-3 in a P5 conference. Name me all the schools that have made a bowl in the last 5 consecutive years. That list is maybe 15-20 schools.
True there are 17 that made a bowl the past 5 years, but there are surprisingly quite a few teams that made it 4 out of 5 with the only year they missed was the covid fluke year.

Alabama
Auburn
Boston College (we’re bowl eligible but declined)
Clemson
Georgia
Iowa
Kentucky
Miami
Mississippi State
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Oregon
Texas A&M
Wake Forest
Wisconsin

Teams that only missed during the covid year
Arizona State
LSU
Michigan
Michigan State
Missouri (6-6 in 2019 but turned down?)
Penn State
Utah
Virginia Tech
Washington State

In other words we are in pretty good company.

It makes no sense why our O-line played a lot better against Iowa than against Kansas. Maybe they're banged up, but it's strange.

Campbell is the right man, not sure his bowling league buddies are.
Yeah - rhoads dug himself a deep hole with bad assistants. I fear on offense we have lost some quality assistants like Lou Ayeni and Alex Golesh. Need to keep scheelhaase and retool the offense coaching staff.

The ones who have talked about firing Campbell the most are the people defending him. Wild.

I think it's similar to folks passively yearning for Prohm last year because TJ threw together a hodge podge group and made the NCAA tourney.

Things are good, things look like they could be better.

Both can be true.

Anyone who was legitimately wanting Prohm back was so beyond stupid they didnt even deserve last season. We would have gone 0-18 in conference again if he stayed and thats prerty indisputable in my mind

Just listened to today’s Unnecessary Roughness. Matt Campbell made the #1 spot on The Good & The BAD segment & was called a coaching malpractice sending the kid out there to attempt that kick rather than going for it.

I’d have to disagree with this. If I recall correctly, the first two kicks were taking on the right hash. As a right footed kicker, this is a harder kick because the ball tends to move to the right before curing back to the left. So the margin or error is much smaller if the ball does t curl back in.

On the last kick, it was on the left hash, allowing a higher margin of error if the ball doesn’t curl back to the left. His first two kicks, while hitting the upright were bad, the ball just didn’t curl back in enough, and being on the left hash, should have made it better. The kicker just shanked it. I probably would have made the same decision to kick it, especially since our offensive line doesn’t get much of a push in short yardage situations.

Also, I played soccer growing up, and this explanation is from my experience.

If you try to force an OC change on Campbell, you really think it’ll work out?
