Who here has called for Campbell to be fired? Stop with these stupid ass loser responses. And blaming it in the players!? Ha, that’s some impressive BS coaching apologist sh*t right there.

This staff’s teams have demonstrated the same issues year after year after year. Issues that literally stem from coaching. Different players, same issues. It does not get anymore black and white than that.

It is absolutely fine and normal and valid for fans to be frustrated that this same sh*t continues to plague Iowa State football. The same sh*t that can and should be fixed by this staff. They are standing in their own way! You think 7 wins is great!? Imagine also winning close games! And no, JFC it does not matter literally at all that Iowa State used to suck at football. Nothing that occurred before 2015 matters at all, in any way. No one cares. Iowa State football is a good program in 2022; freaking act like it. Demand that these current coaches fix this obvious and completely fixable sh*t.

You know the common theme from 2016 to 2022 that has prevented the typical backslide that Iowa State has seen in the past. The coaching staff which has recruited at a higher level and developed players; specifically turning 3 star players into kids that are playing on Sunday.

I joked with another fan in 2018 after the Alamo Bowl. I told him give it five more years and people will be calling for Campbell’s job. He laughed but I explained that fans always want to view success as linear. It doesn’t work that way. And soon that fanbase doesn’t remember 3-9 or 4-8 but only remembers 8-4 and 9-3. All of a sudden 7-5 or 6-6 is a failure. I know the OP isn’t calling for Campbell’s firing but you see the comments on the thread and it sure feels like a couple of 6-6 years will have more people ready to move on. I cannot tell you how important it is for Iowa State to maintain a Top 30-45 program in the next 7-10 years.

Plenty of Teams don’t need transition years. The pieces are there for Iowa State to be a conference contender this year. Such a losers mentality to try to explain these games away with “transition year” BS. The conference is as winnable this year as ever. Freaking Kansas is taking advantage.

Name the teams that go 7 years without a transition year. It won’t fill up both hands.

I would not view going 6-6 this year, the next year or even the following year as a failure. I would view 3 wins as very disappointing this year, a total let down next year and a total failure the year after.

Perhaps I am way off base. I remember some coach saying that bulls--t programs care about going 6-6 back in 2017. Alas, I cannot remember what coach said that. Does anyone remember who the coach was that said that about 6-6 programs?

Pollard literally just said on KXNO last week one of his selling points to Campbell is having full control; zero chance he or anyone else forces anything upon him anytime soon.
If anyone thinks Pollard or freaking Wintersteen are going to force Campbell to fire coaches need to just stop.

Pollard is giving Matt full control. Reality is just last season ISU was 4/10 in ppg and ypp in the Big 12. JP and WW are not going to make Campbell do a damn thing.

Have a beer, take a gummy, dance, take a nap, mow the yard, clean your room!! Watch Breece score winning TD, give some love to hurricane Ian sufferers. New week, new opportunity, new life.

I think it's similar to folks passively yearning for Prohm last year because TJ threw together a hodge podge group and made the NCAA tourney.

Things are good, things look like they could be better.

Both can be true.
TJ you say? Maybe get him to moonlight as special teams coach and help with recruiting.

Listen to Ben Bruns on Iowa Everywhere. Looks like Kansas ran Cover 4 and dared us to run the ball and we couldn't. He said all they did the whole game was take away deep and seam passes, which they did. Our receivers couldn't get adequate separation.

It was pretty evident I thought, but here we were with people wanting deep shots.

Hard to see coverage on TV. It's something that drives me nuts in broadcasts. You can see the initial formation for the most part but once the ball is snapped generally can only see 2nd level

It's why the lengthwise view should be available more often. It's awesome to see why things work or don't.

Per KU's defense, they had their ears pinned back and something to get their Dline to back off or slow down a bit may have helped.

Downhill/quick stuff seemed to at least get SOMETHING going.

It will be interesting going forward to see if KU's defense found some things and can continue to be adequate.

This could be the downside of him being so loyal to his staff and hiring mainly guys from Ohio.

Feels like there are a couple areas where a staff shakeup wouldn’t hurt.
Heacock, Scheelhaase, Caponi, Rasheed, and maybe Broomfield are about all that I'd want back next year. haha

Obviously won't happen. Veidt is OK, but our LBs are trash this year.

I constantly hear about this football teams youth... Yet when I look at the depth chart, I see A TON of upper classmen.

QB - 2 years of limited playing experience, 3rd year in the program
RB - 4th year guy with tons of experience
WR - 3/4 top guys are 5th year seniors
TE - 2 redshirt juniors, one in his 4th year of the program
OL - 4/5 are 4th year guys or better. Two are 3 year starters and one is a 2-year starter

DL - 2/3 are redshirt seniors, the other is a 3rd year player with A LOT of experience
LB - Average age of this group is over 22. Two 5th year guys, one 6th year guy
CB - The group who has played the best IMO. A true sophomore and true Junior
S - AJ in his 5th year, Beau Freyler may be our best defensive player and has experience, then it's very young after him

This team is rather old. Can we stop with the "young" mantra.. Maybe the secondary is young. After that, this is an upper classmen program. Really unimpressed with the program's development if this is what we are to expect starting this many 3rd and 4th year guys...

Time to let the younger, more athletic, and higher recruited players get experience for 2023 and beyond.

I like Campbell and I appreciate what he's done for the program. At the same time, boy do I feel like he's left alot of meat on the bone over the course of the last 3 years. So many close losses happening in nearly identical fashion, and apparently very little being done to address that.

It has nothing to do with the youth of this team. Last year we made all these same stupid mistakes with possibly the most veteran and talented team we've ever had..... and had a very disappointing season. It's the same s**t every year, no matter how young or veteran team we have.

Special teams coach or not I would sure think with some added emphasis in practice we could clean up some of the boneheaded mistakes we constantly make like hitting the returner before he catches the ball or getting the hell out of the way when we can't cleanly catch a punt ourselves. Those 2 things alone should not be tough to clean up as they kill us with field position or turning over the ball when we commit those mistakes.

O Line definitely needs to watch some film and clean some things up after this game. As for the play calling, other than Manning changing something with his game script or CMC over riding more of his play calls not sure what else can be done there. Thought we looked way too predictably against KU, the little dink and dunk short passes on the edge and the short crossing routes didn't give KU much of a reason to need to sit back and defend the long ball much. It's time to integrate Easton Dean and Jared Rus in the passing game more too. Just 4 catches for Dean and 5 for Rus this season is underwhelming. Just how many times have we really even targeted a TE compared to recent years? I realize these guys aren't Kolar and Allen but just feels like this season we really have gone away from using the TE more.

The team is somewhat older, but inexperienced. I bolded our biggest problem, though. I keep hearing that this group of OL is supposed to be good if they could just not be injured. . .

I truly believe the OL is what it is after I saw it last year and the year before. Until I see new names on the jerseys I won't expect improvement.

Exactly and I am not sure why others get upset when this is pointed out. Special teams, OL, penalties, questionable play calls continue to be concerns and nothing is changing. These are legitimate questions for fans to ask.

Young team this year. Last year blew chunks. Big chunks. I could take this years struggle if we'd kicked a$$ last year.
Generally agree, but the O Line play has never progressed. Downing got man handled on Saturday.
