What would CMC do if he coached at Iowa right now with everything Petras has been going through with being booed at every game? If he thinks ISU fans are bad.... yikes.

Probably one of these reasons he is still here. He can be his own man and feel comfortable calling people out. Good for him.

I would love to be wrong and tip my hat to you at the end of the season as I’m getting on a plane to go to our bowl game…

However, I think the last part of your post is correct: we could improve and win 5 of our last 6. It’s certainly possible we lose every one of them too…nobody has any idea what will happen.

The take away: have fun, enjoy life, love your significant other and kids, and for Pete’s sake, whatever you do, don’t bet a single dollar on an Iowa State game the rest of the season.
Yeah the defense has been pretty good thus far, so unless for some reason there's a drop-off there, they should be able to keep us in most of the games hopefully.

The whole season outcome is dependent on whether the coaching staff can salvage something this year for an offense (and not have special teams blow it).

I do think there are some good players on offense, so you would think there's some way we could shuffle personnel to get something that works decent. We don't need an all-star offense to make a bowl. We just need an offense that can score a touchdown once or twice a game lol

You also said "it was absurd what fans said and did." Were there message board people with bad takes? Yes. But was there something major that happened that we're unaware of (as in the did part)?

And the meetings you're reverting to again, he said he sees good things. CMC is protecting his guys (players and coaches). Nothing wrong with that and good leaders take the blame. Good leaders also know when change is needed internally and I know we all hope to see some of that before next season.

Campbell acting like someone fire-bombed the kickers car.

The defense has been ELITE.

Good for Jace.

fact is we shouldn’t have to rely on 40+ yard field goals every drive.

need touchdowns and the offense needs fixed in order to do that.

Campbell reaching for straws in trying to find a positive in last nights terrible offense performance.

Literarlly have fans booing the QB the OC and the players 2 hours east of here at every single home game...Non stop..

Our ST are a complete disaster on the road with nearly 5k ISU fans showing up to that game at KU and Our HC decides to throw the fan base under the bus?

This fan base is truly one of the most patient and supportive fan bases you will find in all of sports.

Go to Nebrasks Matt..Go To Michigan Matt or Go to ND Matt...and see exactly what happens to coaches and players and their families when **** hits the fan and you are losing.

I was of the opinion that ISU cannot afford to lose CMC and I truly appreciate all he's done. But right now Matt Campbell cannot afford to lose ISU.

People are calling for CMC to blame players and coaches. He won’t and shouldn’t. It will lose any chance of improvement if he does. I hope he is addressing those issues with the individual appropriately, but pointing fingers in public is wrong and something he won’t do. Firing an assistant now won’t help most likely.
Literally no one is calling for CMC to blame players.

This right here.

Any move "up" comes with much loftier expectations, exponentially more accountability, and way less patience.

You obviously don't understand Matt Campbell. He would be perfectly fine coaching division 3 football. It was a minority part of our fan base complaing about our field goal kicker. However, where is the fan base that is ******** to the people that were complaining about an 18 or 19 year old freshman field goal kicker. Those are the people that are disappointing. Call those people out .

Good for Campbell.

For some reason I picture this in the coaching/players room during this week's offensive preparation:

Campbell is part of the issues for sure. The offense and special teams have been bad and they're not being addressed. Yesterday KState called that time out on our fourth down play. Then Matt had to use a TO to make his mind up after having extra time. Bad bad decision. Y lo u have you get that 4th down now with only 2 time outs.
Calling the timeout there should be addressed by CMC in a presser. Absolutely inexcusable and can never happen again. That might have been the most boneheaded coaching decision of the season so far. It’s just so, so bad.

I agree that hurt us. Was it possible that maybe they did it to avoid a substitution/delay of game penalty?

Still a tough look for that happening out of a timeout though.

So all we can do is run between the tackles and throw 3-4 yd drag routes then? We surely don't need to pay an OC a million bucks a year to run only that.

I'll try this again.

What specifically can ISU do with the personnel available?

Not something you WANT to see. Not just 'get creative' or 'run WR screens like Ohio State does!'. What specifically? What do you think they can run to compliment something else with the players available?

Do you see the time available to do something else for routes? Are the zoneish looking outside runs making the defense commit? Do you see a lot of speed from the receivers and backs? YAC ability? What are they able to establish? What strength does the Oline possess?

Don't just answer with 'well I guess we'll just give up and get rid of tailgating!!!'. Be specific.

Imo Manning/ISU have had past issues with regards to finding and sticking with what works and not developing an adequate Oline even with decent players but I've yet to see anything realistically suggested on here that ISU can actually do with this group.

Someone said just do what the KC Chiefs do which tells me people aren't looking at things realistically.

Iowa State absolutely has the offensive talent and skill and playmakers to score multiple touchdowns against Kansas and Kansas State.

What is this based on? One long drive against a bad Iowa team? The Ohio game?

This thread needs shut down, total non-issue as far as I'm concerned. You guys finally got something that's not coach-speak from him that you've been clamoring for years and now everyone is upset.

Let's revisit preseason expectations, pretty much everybody on here thought 6-6 or 7-5, now we are right on track for that and its a nuclear meltdown mode.

I'm not going to pretend like there aren't offensive issues but we didn't have trouble scoring or moving the ball on Iowa or Baylor and Iowa's defense is better than anything in the Big 12. We should have putup 21-27 range on them if not for all the dumb mistakes.

I thought last night we were actually moving the ball well against a good defense but they kept stalling out once they got close to the red zone.

If you guys think our offense sucks so bad or Manning is the worst Division 1 coordinator go watch Iowa and Brian Ferentz, their offense is on a completely different level of ineptitude .
Sorry but using Baylor as an example of competent offense just doesn't work. 24pts/game would be good for 90th in the country. 350 yards/game is 90th in the country. The bright spot was 5.5 yards per play which is good for 65th in the country. We're a lot closer to Iowa's offense than we're willing to admit. Like less than a half yard per play different. Transitive property isn't perfect with a "ball control" offense but go look what other teams have done to the defenses that we've faced, excluding Iowa.
