The offense against KU was inexcusable. You can say what you want about KU offense and their turn around, but their defense has not been good all year, and ISU got stonedI would feel a lot more hopeful if we had seen any difference or improvement from the Iowa to KU to KSU game on the offensive side of the ball. Iowa I let slide because of their D. KU was inexcusable and KSU was much of the same.
But here's to another day and another growing opportunity.
They might prove you wrong. They might not cover the spread.Clones cover the spread but lose. Please prove me wrong Clones.
I've been trying to use a lot of stats to show why our offense sucks. However, I think they also show it's a mix of **** rather than just one root cause.Texas will be up 16 in the 3rd quarter. They will go into more of a prevent D. ISU scores enough to make it technically a one score game in the 4th, without the game ever being in any actual doubt.
At some point in the future someone will post total yardage stats from this game to back up their take that Manning is actually good.

I think Texas will probably be a little down coming off a huge week last week and somewhat looking forward to OSU next up. With that said, their Defense has size, speed, and strength that is going to prevent us from running the ball at all (which we're already nearly last doing). They will be able to double team X and that will be enough to prevent us from explosive plays. Unfortunately, even if Texas is down this week, the combo of Bijan and Ewers give them a ton of options in our first multidimensional test of the year.
Last year's collapse with that stacked roster really soured me on this bunch.I've been higher on ISU than most since this staff's arrival. There's some not great patterns starting to emerge though.
Here let me give you the list of responses to this:Last year's collapse with that stacked roster really soured me on this bunch.
Seeing no noticeable change in strategy or risk taking against Iowa increased my doubts.
Imagine if Pottebaum didn't fumble.
We're 2-4, and hooboy. But hey, let's blame the fans.

Man that is a dead on post. Exactly right.Texas will be up 16 in the 3rd quarter. They will go into more of a prevent D. ISU scores enough to make it technically a one score game in the 4th, without the game ever being in any actual doubt.

I can't speak for Joe, but here are patterns I see. Here let me give you the list of responses to this:
1. You are just expecting too much. Just because in year 2 of the program with the decimated remnants of a crushed previous program and a mid season QB switch the team went 8-5 and knocked off too top 15 programs that was then and this is now.
2. You wouldn’t be upset if these were blow out loses. Losing by one score instead of 7-8 is not different in the W/L column but it feels better.
3. You just need to be patient. Eventually, the strategy of doing the same thing repeatedly will pay off!!!
I can't speak for Joe, but here are patterns I see.
Overselling development and depth. This staff has 3 rbs in the league (4 if you count Hunt) and a rookie that is making serious waves. To say that this rb room is the deepest, may be technically true, but it certainly sets a perception. If what was meant to say was, previously we've had an A player with C backups, but now we have a room full of B+-B rbs, say something alluding to that. Only problem is, Brock has been on the team for 4 seasons now so that would seem to be a slight to him one way or the other, his ceiling or his floor. Perhaps C. Norton was the cause for those comments, time will tell. We've seen the same for years w/ oline development/depth. These comments can certainly be painted as "coach speak", but they influence fan expectations as well.
Offensive development/innovation and game-winning drives. It seems that ISU is an offensive philosophy vs doing what works. We want to be X version offense, and we try to make that happen vs adjusting to be successful. Also, not trying to highlight an individual player, but outside of the 2019 W against Tx I don't recall many games we've won where the offense has needed to have a go-ahead score to seal the win.
-- I hate to do this last one, but it's what I see at this stage in development at ISU
Philosophy lived or philosophy spoken. I truly believe Matt cares about his kids and in the larger, principled aspects of life and developing young men. And I also see that when the pressure rises and ISU is in a must-win or next-level opportunity, a return to core habits. I see a young coach that likely had to be coached to harness and control his aggression. In short, in nearly every game over the past handful of years where ISU could take that next step Matt has gone on tilt at some point. Attention to detail and precision seem to be desired areas of focus, but we seem to continually be beaten by teams that can execute on them better than we can.
Does ISU want to win the big game at all costs, or is honor more important than victory? I'm actually good with either answer, but the tension comes when you try to hold onto both. Answer that question and then authentically represent that.
If he does want to reach that next level that comes with getting big wins, change needs to occur. Is there anyone that has his ear to challenge him to reach that next level? Will he?
Will I?
back to work.
Remember the last game in Austin? Seems like that turned out okay when ISU hung around and won at the end. Clearly there are some issues with this team, particularly on offense, but let's try to remember that the offense lost maybe the best RB, QB and TEs in school history. They are also playing a team that have $100 million budget, and can buy anyone they want to play for them.Man that is a dead on post. Exactly right.
Did somebody say 8 turnovers???We'd like to see something (anything) different on offense that lasts more than one play that actually tends to be successful and isn't attempted again.
I agree, if we see the same five play default offense for 90 percent of the drives the maximum scored is 10 points with 3-6 points being much more likely. This estimate is based on attempting that one play that works really well gaining 30-50 yards then going back to the 5-play default for the remainder of the game. It may produce a few fields goals, even a remarkable TD, but will lead to a final of 31-10 or 35-6.
We have a great defense. What kind of miracles are we planning for from them if they are out there for three quarters of game time? We are looking for 7-8 turnovers by Texas and a win with a final score of 9-7 or 6-3.
It would be great to see something different attempted and an inspired game plan with adjustments ready as Texas adapts to it. That would lead to that surprising 38-31 or 45-28 victory.
I'd love to be horribly wrong about these predictions and I hope I am.
