I clearly drink more than most based on these responses.....what are people drinking instead? I have a hard time believing everyone is just drinking water. I have friends that sip on soda all day or 2-3 energy drinks. I don't see how that is more healthy than a couple of beers at night....
Way too much diet coke.
Also drink a lot of the Walmart brand cheap carbonated flavored water without the artificial sugar.

Husband and I did not drink at all when we had kids and elderly parents around. Way too many situations when someone has a health issue and you are headed to the emergency room. Five kids, I have lost track who has had stitches how many times. One of the kids needed an appendectomy when he was home from college on break. Just always wanted to have all of my wits about me when responsible for others.

Now that I am back to rarely drinking, drink water and coffee in the morning, have a lower sugar sports drink after walking the dog, drink a lot of tea and a pop the rest of the day. I get a lot of leg, foot, and toe cramps at night, so I have switched from having a glass of water on the nightstand to a sports drink and that seems to have helped relieve those. My sister also gets cramps on her feet and we are both double jointed and I have wondered if there is any correlation.

Hydration is really important and when I used to have wine at night I think that correlated with leg cramps too.

There are more and more local options which is fun to try but there is definitely good and bad kombucha. I didn't like it at first but later tried more and just found out the brand I tried first sucked.
Brewing it has been a game changer for me. You can bottle when it's as sweet or sour as you prefer. Agree on the brands too. Hyvee brand is the worst.

I first put zero because I will often go for weeks on end without a drink so the average week is probably zero. But then when we start talking about RAGBRAI, football (tailgating) season and the holidays it probably averages out to more than 1 seventh of the 365 days of the year. I don't drink very often at home but when with the inlaws I have at least one beer pretty much every day.

Just to clarify 7 drinks in one day isn’t the same as drinking one drink a day for 7 days. Not the other way around. That much drinking in one session is considered binge drinking even if it is spread out a bit.
I guess I don't understand what you said different than I did.

TLDR version: Was drinking too much, but have cut back significantly the past 3 months and have been much happier.

Interesting thread reading everyone's experience. My answer for the past three months is 3, prior to that it was an average of 5-6 nights per week. My drinking was getting too deep into the addiction range. The night caps started changing from 1-2, into 2 sometimes 3. I knew I needed to change my ways when on Thursdays I'd be proud of myself if it wasn't 4. Friday and Saturdays would be 4-5 and more if there was something going on. I've been able to back way off of that. Now I'll have a night cap if my wife also wants one. That happens once maybe 2 nights max during the week. Then it is 1 or 2 drinks and no more. Weekends are still tough if there are social events, but even those I've dialed back. Otherwise there may be another night cap on Saturdays, but not always.

I can tell its all related to what I have going on in my life. Bored/stressed with my job was when I started staying up later at night. I've been prioritizing/enjoying going to the gym the past 3 months, and that really helps because I know I won't be effective unless I'm eating/drinking healthy.

My key to avoid binge drinking on weekends is to have something to look forward to doing Saturday and Sunday mornings. Like most, we usually have some event on Saturday that will be loaded with calories, so I want to make sure I can get a long run in by 7 AM to make up for the coming calories. That means a ginger ale on Friday night instead of gin and tonics. We have youth sports all day on Sundays, but I also like my new routine of hitting up the sauna once a week so that means I need to get there first thing in the morning to have time for it.

I'm sure my health kick will wane eventually, but I'm lined up to coach a couple of youth basketball teams this winter. That will keep me honest heading into the weekends. I turn 40 next summer, so if I fall off of my workout routine this winter, I will want to ratchet it back up next spring.

I can tell I'm doing much better since it doesn't seem like I'm making a conscience decision to not drink, it just happens. I actually enjoy tailgating more without having any beers since it doesn't feel like the event is the entire day. I have plenty of energy after the games to get things done. My hope is that my 3 nights/week average falls to 1-2 by just losing interest in it.

I probably drink about once every 2-3 months. Honestly, just when family/visitors come over (and not every time) as I never just drink on my own. It's so bad, that sometimes I buy beer for guests and have to throw it away 5 or 6 months later because we never finished the case. To tell you the truth, I prefer a nice Coke Zero to drinking a beer or other alcoholic beverage.

I'd love to try brewing my own some day! Yeah most of the bigger brands seem to suck imo

Coffee in the morning. Water throughout the day. Caffeine free tea in the evening. I do go through phases where I'll have some drinks throughout the week, and other phases where I avoid alcohol for a weeks.

I am seriously considering trying some NA beers, I have been thinking about cutting back. I don't drink a lot, but just for my long-term health. My problem has been I don't really like sugary drinks like juice, soda; I drink enough tea in the morning, but I want something other than water or sparkling water in the evening to sip on.

Thanks all, for suggesting something outside my box.

I'm not one to argue with my cardiologist.
Definitely don't blame you. I was just stating what I recall seeing. It was relatively recent and information is always changing. Hell one day coffee is great for you, the next day the studies say the opposite.
