Not sure how to respond to that. I don’t think you could find a single study supporting that claim, honestly that’s borderline reckless to say to a patient.
He isn't my normal cardiologist so I'll ask my new one at my annual. I don't drink for the taste so drinking one a day was never attractive to me so I didn't push on it. I do love a good buzz, but love no hangovers now.

Better for you then drinking for a number of reasons, we are finally starting to get some real studies now that it is getting legalized (why it was classified as a schedule one in the first place I’ll never understand) and the results are very promising.
No drugs is better for your health than any drugs.

1-2 times a week here. Usually have about 15-25 drinks per day when drinking. Mostly on a Saturday/Sunday. Sometimes I’ll go weeks at a time without drinking though.. so it all evens out in the end.

I like Single malt scotch. I don’t drink it it everyday but its cleaner and more efficient than beer.

I have been using this meta analysis study to justify my behavior. Any thoughts? Based on this anyway, the J curve is pretty consistent across studies and reflects all cause mortality decrease in drinking under about 40 grams per day. So approx 3 drinks.

As an alky, the only thing I'd be worried about is using the term 'justify my behavior'. If you are already seeking out excuses, that's not a good start. Not saying it's a problem, but just a thought.

I never would have imagined this thread would be full of non-drinkers or very very occasional ones. Crazy.

Makes me wonder if getting an all CF AA group going would be a cool idea. God knows the Clones make anyone want to drink!!

Good eye. I think I have some level of a problem.

I have no life concerns at all, jobs, friends, relationships, etc. However, I would say I don't like the craving and ritual it has become.

I do all the cooking in our house. I really enjoy flipping on some tunes, having a couple drinks while I prep. Then maybe one with dinner. It's like clockwork.

Are you saying consuming recreational drugs is better for your health and body than staying clean?

He is probably talking about all the life saving script drugs that people are on.

For example, my wife is an epileptic and takes seizure control meds. That has likely saved her life.

CF is old, man...

I think it has to do with a lot of us getting older now and realizing our bodies are going to sh*t (and maybe some wisdom that's been gained through life experiences).

Okay, I should have clarified at first and said "recreational drugs". I do agree with you that life saving script drugs are a necessity and save lives for sure.

You didn’t specify recreational in your first comment but I’ll follow up anyways.

For a lot of people what you say is true but for those with medical issues many “recreational” drugs can have great benefits especially when handled by a physician. LSD has been shown to help greatly with PTSD, ketamine can help with depression/anxiety, and marijuana has been shown to help with a wide variety of mental issues. As the stigma behind those drugs lessens and we get more studies out we will start to see even more uses.

Sign me up for those studies!

I agree in the positive effects you mention when those drugs are prescribed/used to treat those conditions. However, in a healthy person with none of those conditions I'm betting that using those drugs does not make you healthier.

It's been well over a decade but I've dropped acid and done ketamine. I have a hard time believing that's a safe alternative but maybe if the dose was significantly lessened or something. LSD is a crazy ******* trip.

Haha we are. I feel like the demo is getting older. Crazy to think I was still in college when CF started and it's been over 15 years now.
