Im still not convinced a P2 breakaway is happening. I think they know they need the others more than they're willing to admit
No one outside of message board posters have every brought up splitting away. It’s not happening for a number of reasons. People are already tired of seeing the same teams in the playoffs. They new playoff deal is going to be so much higher becuase it is expanding the field not contracting it or gatekeeping entry.

Conanzo’s response to the B12 news is to compare Yormark to a time share sales person. :-/

Is that really a slam?

Yormark is a salesman. He's a marketer.

That's what the conference wanted and needed.

The PAC commish was at MGM Resorts.... But somehow that dude is the **** and Yormark is a goof?

That author can get the **** out of here

Canzano has been pure gold through all of this. Mandel has been too. At least Mandel is trying to pretend his PAC was more valuable than the Big 12 takes were more like “both are screwed.” Canzano remains in fantasy land.

Wasn't Bowlsby trying to set up to throw a wrench into the OU/UT exit when he said that? Not disagreeing that Yormark is light years ahead of Bowlsby, just saying that figure was exaggerated for effect.
He was also playing the tortious interference game, which I can guarantee you has been stated in meetings. Yormark can say, but "let's move forward and get this chapter behind us."

Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney said this week he thinks a lack of uniformity will lead to a complete restructuring in college athletics at some point. In particular, he sees the larger, more prominent Power 5 schools forming their own division in football.

"I think there's going to be a complete blowup ... especially in football, and there needs to be," Swinney told ESPN. "I think eventually there will be some type of break and another division. Right now, you got everybody in one group, and it's not feasible. Alabama has different problems than Middle Tennessee, but we're trying to make them all the same and it's just not. I think you'll have 40 or 50 teams and a commissioner and here are the rules."

Could be. He could also be pushing to have P5,P4 or P3 be separate from G5.

I said this a few times, but the financial aspects of the 12 team playoff is currently being kept in the weeds. The media reports are currently focused on timing (is 2024 possible) and calendar (conflicts with NFL, finals week, facility availability). But we all know that MONEY is primary. In regard to G5 programs, today those 60 some schools receive about $90M total. With a 12 team playoff, using the same split they could receive $300M+. Are P5 conferences willing to share hundreds of millions annually with G5 conferences that at most will have 1 playoff team? I am skeptical.

The Big12, ACC & Pac12 need to be very clear that there is no agreement on a 12 team playoff and 2024 start day until financials and access are also agreed upon. I can see the SEC and Big10 wanting to run with "we have a deal" and get fans and media on board. Making it tough for the Big12, ACC and Pac12 to throw a wrench in later when the Big10 & SEC want much higher $ splits or structure selection to favor more SEC or Big10 teams.

The Pac12 can be more open to alternative media options because they have 10 teams and 5 games to offer. If their selling point for maximum viewing is late games (Fri/Sat), then they might only have 1 game to offer the networks at the Sat 3p or 7p time slots.

I am also not convinced that the Pac12 automatically owns the 9:30p or 10p CT late start time. The SEC, Big10 and Big12 could all go with an 8pm game between CT Zone teams and pull viewers away from the Pac12. If I am an ET/CT resident, if I watch LSU & Oklahoma from 8 to 11:30p, am I less likely to tune into the late Pac12 game at the start of the 3rd quarter? Especially if its not close.

I was too broad. No one with any intelligence or authority is saying that. Quoting Dabo is like everyone quoting Dave wansted when he talked about big 12 schools joining the big ten. My fault for being to broad with my “nobody” comment

So Canzano says this in today’s column:
The Big 12 can certainly cut an early deal, but I think it’s wiser to wait 12-16 months. You know, let the value of live sports programming continue to escalate, then cash in. If I’m ESPN/Fox, I’d love to do an early deal with the Big 12 and save some money on the back end.

But then said this on August 31:

I don’t blame Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark for wanting to open discussions and try to get to market early. It’s exactly what I’d have done. No doubt, his consultants were telling him there was no point in waiting to have discussions. The Big Ten landed a windfall. The Pac-12 accelerated its timeline. College football was moving on and 18 months is too long to wait for anything these days.

So which is it? I think the answer is he’s a clown.

NFL lite doesn’t work, never has. The appeal of college football was always rooting for the school you went to, rivalries and tradition. When that goes away, people realize a better version of football is being played in the NFL.

Another thing about college football that is appealing is the varied approaches teams take to be successful. RPO, option, pro-style offenses. Analytics was first utilized in the college game.

I get bored with the NFL. Most teams are too afraid to takes risks and be in innovative.

And give the viewer the option to pick which crew they want to listen to. Shouldn't be too hard to offer both. God knows I don't want to be stuck listening to homers for the other school every time we are on the road.
The technical side isn't the issue, it's the advertising. TV and radio have vastly different advertisers and ad rates and the TV side isn't giving all the radio advertisers free ads.
