Can’t blame the Twins for not going beyond 10 years. I’m afraid Swanson will also want a similar long term deal. Sometimes you have cash in your chips and back away from the table.
Costs money to get high level quality players. Minnesota needs to make a run at Swanson. Farmer isn’t going to cut it at SS if the Twins want to be a good competitive team. The ownership and front office need to make a signing or 2 to energize the fan base and improve the team.
It’s frustrating being a fan of a team that does most of their free agent shopping at the local Dollar Tree.

Less worried about SS with Lewis’ impending return than I am about the pen and getting high level, corner OF RH bat.

The Twins did make a run at a quality player. Supposedly they had $285 million for ten years for Correa. I thought it would take $300/10, but even that wouldn’t have been enough.
If Swanson wants a ridiculous long term deal, the Twins need to shift from FA and focus on the trade market. I just hope they don’t give Rodon stupid money.

But if it does work, it's a high-level player that's one HELL of a lot cheaper than the alternative and you're not locked into a deal for an absurd amount of time.

True. I would still go after Dansby. If Royce does recover, he would be elite at a lot of different positions.

Ok… but where would he see regular ABs? You really want him out in the OF again?

Everyone seems to be clamoring for a RH OF bat. 2nd after Ploanco is gone or 3rd if Miranda can't cut it.

Twins either need to go for it or go full rebuild.

The would have a LOT of good trade pieces if they did go full rebuild. I would prefer they go for it.

Would be awesome if they could sign Swanson and Rodon.

Carlos took less money (annually) to go with the Giants. Word on the streets here in Minny is that he wanted to not be in a rebuild situation. The Giants can clearly contend faster than Minn.

More money total. If he signs the 10 year deal, he probably doesn't make as much money overall after that contact runs out. Also makes it the largest contract ever for a SS.

Plus Minn is a very high tax state. Less income overall per year.

If Rodon didn’t have such a bad injury history, the six year deal he’s looking for would be a little more palatable. In this case, I’m fine with lettIng the Yankee$ use some their unlimited money.

That's probably the smart move, but even so, it would feel good to be a player.

How do you feel about a potential Arraez for Lopez trade?

I know you have give up something in order to land Lopez, but I’d hate to trade Arraez. If the Twins had competent medical people and they are worried about his knees, then go for it. Otherwise, package Kepler, Ober, and Martin.

Dan Hayes from the Athletic was on High Heat sayng the Twins might have to trade one their three free agent (at the end of this year) starting pitchers. Didn’t like that idea.

After gutting some of their young bats last year at the deadline and with the health of Kirloff constantly in question, I do not like the idea of trading Martin.... at all.

Martin is now 23 and other than a nice fall league, he hasn’t done much. He continues to drop on the minor league prospect boards and the Twins have been playing him only at SS. If the Twins didn’t have Brooks Lee, his development might be more urgent.

2nd and/or 3rd base. Miranda isn't a given at 3rd and Polanco has been up and down his career, average defensively at 2nd and would be good trade bait.

I think the Twins are closer to competing than the Giants. Especially, if they have Correa. This was about the overall dollar amount. I guess long-term it's more likely that the Giants will be more consistently competitive simply because they have more money.
