He was a complete non-factor tonight and looked like he wanted nothing to do with any type of aggressive move. Actually the few times he did try to attack he was stuffed or nearly lost the ball. Something is off with him.
Wonder if someone or a team is in his head

From the Texas message board:

"Starting to wonder if Hunter is angry about Beard. He doesn’t seem to care on defense. He got pulled for Rice and Morris. I think you will see lineup changes when the next loss happens".

maybe he doesn’t want to be there but that’s what his handlers wanted.

Hunter may have gotten paid well, but i think at this point in his mind he’s probably regretting his decision.

I wonder if when he comes to ames he will change the way he plays. Maybe since he is in a hostile environment he will try to prove a point and play Hero Ball. Or maybe he will be psyched out and be scared to shoot. Should be interesting

I am fine booing every time he touches the ball and then going quiet when he passes as long as it goes for extended periods of time.

We have done that before with other players and sometimes it seems to impact the whole team. Usually this was done with the opposing team's point guard. (Although I have also seen the booed player go off despite the tactic). Regardless, it makes for a fun game experience.
Of course I expect some 'stuff' during the game, but...call me chicken or what not, but sometimes I think that can backfire and help him and his team play even more determined or better.

Guy he’s guarding is leading all scorers…

He is never scared to shoot. What he had done against LSU was great but he took some bad shots and still made it.

I see similarities to the Wisconsin game last year. Huge game (obviously bigger than a conference game in January) but especially personal to him given he was back home in Milwaukee against his home-state team that didn’t recruit him. Probably a little too wound up given the circumstances and the game he just had against LSU. Surely felt like he had something to prove and he didn’t respond well. Went 1-10 for 4 points.

Doubt he regrets leaving ISU, but he may wish he’d gone elsewhere to get paid.

Texas has always and will always have talented guys. Rice is just flat out a better basketball player than Hunter. That isn’t changing this season. If you appreciate guys that are skilled, Rice is really fun to watch.

There's a lot to dissect here but I think it should be noted he also could have liked Prohm and wanted to play for him. Say what we want to about Prohm as a coach (he was in way over his head), but he is likeable, and was getting some talent to come to Iowa State.
There are some instances when recruits choose coaches more so than schools.
Maybe, except Beard is nothing like Prohm...

I think EVERYONE knows that.
Beard appears to be a dirt bag but can coach. What a lot of us think of Beard was formed after Tyrese committed to him. I just don't think the "why would you want to play for a woman beater" type stuff really applies in this situation.
Now, if Texas retained Beard and we lost a player to them next year, then sure, I could see that applying.

I can’t remember how Haluska and Iowa played but that’s the only comp I can think of.

It was confusing why he went to Texas with Rice already in that position. Oh well. Tamin made me forget about him already

He made it sound like it was because ISU wasn’t a path to the NBA in spite of recently producing what is most likely the best point guard in the world and a second nba starter at point guard. It had nothing to do with being paid while in school, just these mythological Texas/Beard point guards I have somehow never seen.

This is sad.

Even with football we should be able to be better than Creighton for NIL.

I don't mind losing out to Texas particularly because we have seen that too many high-priced NIL options can implode (Texas A&M, player not getting paid at Texas, etc.), but our best guys should not be UNDER benchwarmers on other Big 12 or Big East programs.

I may need to up my We Will amount.
Creighton, the private school with no football team that cranks out lawyers and doctors? The enrollment is (only) 1/4th of ours (or Iowa’s). There is zero chance that we compete with that unless someone wins the next MegaWhatever jackpot.
