For the 1000 students and 1500 others who did not attend, they again missed a matchup of 2-top 25 teams. We all make choices.
We blow off the roof playing KU, KSU, Texas, and presume the other Big 12 games do not need the same fan energy. This is not a standard complaint about fan energy, but facts are facts.
No one is prouder of ISU BB than I am. If you want to fully understand fan energy, go to Allen Fieldhouse. Makes no difference who the opponent is or what the team record is. This team needs fan energy and we need to give it to them.
It also doesn't hurt that KU has cheated for years, getting away with it, and winning a lot because of it.

ISU had to create their own vibe out of thin air, starting with Johnny Orr (RIP). I do believe we might be on to something big with TJ.

That's kind of my point, those classes are geared towards engineering majors (it appears). While there are many engineering majors at ISU, there are also many non-engineering majors at ISU that did not have those tests last night.

The Student Section attendance was pathetic.
I always assumed based on observing the student section that the engineering students were more of the die hards that went to every game and not just KU and Franiacs. One of my kids barely made it into Iowa game one year due to an afternoon test but they at least let them stand on the parquet where all the old people go when they stand around before heading to the parking lot with four minutes left in the game.

There were Math 195, Math 196, Math 207, and Phys 231 exams Wednesday night, that’s a ton of classes all on one day. Physics 231 by itself is a huge course.
Don't these professors know that ISU athletics is far more important than academics? Schedule these tests on another night!

My roommate in college once took a Chem test in 15 minutes in order to make it to a game. She did about as well on the test as she would have if she had taken the two hours. She’s been gainfully employed for 30 years. Do you know what one of her favorite college memories is? It’s not the many tests she took at night.
Sounds like you had a cool roomie!

Since cost of attendance is over $20,000, those student seats are pretty pricy.

I see we’re throwing out every possible dumb take imaginable on here.

Could it be that maybe there were a ton of undergraduate night exams going on Wednesday night?

I'll take Dumb Takes for 500, Alex.

Pollard needs to cut student tickets 25%.

If this were a case of them not being loud and cheering and bringing energy, I wouldn’t be upset. A butt in a seat is good enough for me.

Just simply not showing up to a game because you’re busy on Fortnite or whatever the case may be is unacceptable.

Students over everything. Would be awful to have more 70 year olds who lost their teeth in the parking lot taking those seats for big games.

Students in the building actively help us win. Plus it’s college basketball, the college means something here.

Students weren’t in the building.

If it wasn't for those 70 year olds supporting the program for 50 years, we'd be in the Valley.

What’s your donation level/season ticket status? A lot of people come in here to throw stones at old people who have donated thousands of dollars over the years.. and those same people don’t actively support the program.

I think you could potentially allow people of all ages to show up if you sell unclaimed student section seats. Prices would be cheap and would allow people to regularly go that don’t want to spend $70+ ticket plus fees on Ticketmaster.

Yes, it's still oversold. Students were turned away from the Texas game. My sister in law was one of them and she attends pretty much all games including last night
If true, this is a problem. No student should be turned away. That doesn’t encourage students to keep coming back. I’m not a fan of overselling in hopes it helps fill the section for smaller games.

There is no "if true". This has LONG been the position. Here is the pertinent statement directly from ISU website

"Your student ticket provides you the opportunity to attend the game provided you are one of the first 2,500 students that arrives for the game. It does not guarantee you admittance to the game."

Well they could oversell and do the early ticket pickup as others have suggested. Then the big games where there are likely to be more students trying to attend than tickets available they go on a points system. Those who have actually used their tickets for more games before that date get first chance to get a game ticket.

Or you just sell as many tickets as there are students and 24 or 48 hours before game time any tickets not picked up go on sale to the general public - at the top of the balcony in the student section. Allow any student - even those without season tickets - to purchase them at a discounted student rate.

Gotcha. I seem to remember students getting turned away for KU game in 2014 and I think the Iowa one in late 2013. Not surprised it’s still happening.

I agree, it makes sense to offer general admission tickets to the student section something like 60-90 minutes before tip for games like last night.

It is the peak of stupidity to reduce the student section by 25% permanently

Yeah, I am definitely not a fan of reducing the student section, and think there are solutions to getting butts in seats for games like OSU and TCU. I think KU has adults that paid for GA seating in the top of the student for smaller games, you just never notice cause it’s always full to the top.

This state, they do make efforts to get students in when the 2500 slots run out. Last year, the athletic department 'bought up' or 'held back' unsold tickets for the Iowa game and seated overflow students in balcony rows 15-17 of the donor section. I believe there was some of this for the KU game too

Just as a comparison, students at Texas Tech get into any sporting event for free (well, it's built into tuition/fees). It's basically first come, first served, but their game attendance is kept track of, and in order to get priority seating for their big rivalry games (Texas), they need to attend a certain number of the "lesser" games.

They have a really good home court advantage. It's not as good this year since the team hasn't been great, but I find it interesting how they do things there.
