Which is crazy because the BIG10 killed the PAC by taking USC and UCLA.
This just goes to show how the media thinks of the Big12. It’s ok when the SEC and Big10 do this, but the Big12 is the bad guy by playing the same game.
Which is crazy because the BIG10 killed the PAC by taking USC and UCLA.
I don’t buy for a minute there’s any real sentiment by the Big 10 that they are worried about. The four corners leaving isn’t killing the PAC. It doesn’t help, but a conference without the four corners but with UW and UO could pick up G5 and move on. The PAC without UO and UW is toast. The rumblings are defintely getting louder. Both McMurphy and Jim Williams are on record strongly indicating that the Big 10 intends to (at least strongly consider) UO and Washington if the Big 12 is successful in adding the 4 corners.
The main holdup for the Big 10 is an attempt to avoid the perception that they're responsible for killing the PAC.
With the Big 10 taking this position, it gives Oregon and Washington all the incentive they need to not sign a GOR and work towards pushing the corner 4 out of the conference.

And despite it being circumstantial at this point, 'any' behind the doors agreements will be considered collusion and, thus are evidence that B1G was, in fact, the primary influencer of the P12 demise. As far as 'who cares', I can see lawsuits launched by the P12 in regards to media damages.Agreed. That therory just doesn’t hold water. From your point to the initial choosing just two of 12.

The order doesn’t matter. UW and UO leaving is what will kill the PAC officially, regardless of what the four corners do.
Not to mention nobody actually cares. This idea that there are some sort of implications to a conference “killing the PAC” is super dumb.
This hand-wringing about how these dummies in the media will blame the Big 12 is silly. Who cares?
I hear you, but perception does seem to matter for some reason to these conferences. The SEC was concerned about image when OuT joined, emphasizing the whole time that the two schools approached them first, rather than the conference "poaching" them,
Pretty sure other major moves have had a similar pattern.
I think pointing fingers and debating about which conference is responsible is utterly pointless. But that doesn't change the fact that it does seem to matter to people in charge.

The big difference is Pac12 TV deal and GOR ends June 30, 2024.I hear you, but perception does seem to matter for some reason to these conferences. I agree watching the best athletes from across the globe compete against each other in a mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging environment using only their physical bodies (which they've honed in like 20 minutes at the gym) is pointless.I'd prefer to watch the Ocho sports year round than UFC and WWE.
That’s why it is so painful to watch this separation of leagues happen in terms of TV revenue. The B1G has so many boring, irrelevant teams and games yet each will get $100 mil…..Rutgers? Illinois? Indiana? Purdue? Maryland? Minnesota? NW? Iowa? Iowa has had success but my God are they boring to watch most of the last 25 years. The big networks certainly aren’t paying for quality.**** the Big 10. They are highly overrated. They have 2 good football teams and their basketball conference is hot trash. They backstab leagues by stealing teams... they have tons of money and fall short in having a league of decent sports.
All of those schools have massive, nationwide alumni bases that are in coveted TV demographics. That’s why it is so painful to watch this separation of leagues happen in terms of TV revenue. No institution that has left the Big 12 did so because of academics. Texas A&M and Nebraska left because of unequal revenue with Texas. Missouri and Colorado left because it was a sinking ship and they wanted off. Texas and Oklahoma left for huge paydays.Interesting post from an Oregon State fan, "PAC-ALC which is a leadership group dedicated to driving things like research dollars for the members. The B12 doesn’t have a leadership coalition and some speculate that they would be much stronger and less privy to losing key members if they did.".
The Big 10 is proud of their Academic Alliance. Supposedly, even the SEC has something like this too. In order to further galvanize the Big 12 and to combat the Big 12 lack of academics stereotype, something like this may be good thing to put together and promote.

The lack of any Big 12 academic alliance had zero bearing on those decisions.

7 (soon to be 8) of the Top 10 largest alumni networks in the country are Big Ten schools. Is there a link/article etc. for this?
I think many have strong alumni and all but I'm not sure if I'd include some like NW in there; they seem to be along for the ride at the right time.
