Welcome to the last 10 years of ISU football.

If we DO come out and manhandle ISU I think it bodes well for this team hitting the upper echelons of it's abilities. If not, I don't think that bodes well for the entire season.

This might be the year where the UNI game carries the most significance.
Even Breece Hall's junior year he had 23 carries for 69 yards against UNI. 3.0 yds/carry (his second lowest of the season). He finished that year averaging 5.8 yds/carry.

I think people greatly underestimate the difficulty of playing UNI the first game of the year after they've had weeks of prep and their lack of depth doesn't matter.

it might if the game is 96 degrees. WRNL's betting podcast a week ago talked about how overs hit more often when the temperature is in the 90s since defenses get gassed so much earlier.

I trust our defense to keep UNI from scoring too many points. The question comes down to if we can score on their defense. The hot weather probably helps Iowa State more than UNI.

I wonder how much of that comes down to left handed people only being 10% of the population though. In college there certainly have been successful left handed qbs recently. Tua from Alabama, Kellen Moore boise state, Tim Tebow (I consider him a good college qb not so much for NFL), and Matt Leinart.

Saying that I do agree, watching left-handed qbs feel odd. I wonder how much of an adjustment there is from going from a right-handed qb to a left-handed one. if there is much if all.

There's two lefty QBs in the HoF -- Steve Young and Ken Stabler.

There are 36 QBs enshrined total. There are a couple of guys (all righties) incoming...

Drew Brees
Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Ben Roethlisberger

There might be some other guys who could work their way into it yet (e.g., Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford, etc.), but I think those four up there are pretty much stone cold locks at this point.

So that gives you 2/40. That's 5%. Half what a "neutral" population would indicate.

The only NFL starter I can think of now who is a lefty is Tua. So that's 1/32. Not much of a sample.

I wonder how much of it is lefties with good arms end up as pitchers.

What injuries?

Exactly. You won't hear a thing about any injuries. Never happen, ever.

Who said anything about injuries, not me.

I just thought someone should ask CMC today about Neal and Willich starting.

Then someone said…. CMC won’t talk about injuries…. insinuating that the reason those two are starting is because of injuries. That doesn’t have to be the case…. maybe they just beat everyone out.

One good thing about this year is IF our offense is a tad different, that would make it harder for UNI to prep. Sure, they'll know the basics of our scheme overall, but it'll be different than usual.

Not having any game film whatsoever on our QB's is a big plus when it comes to the defense trying to prep

you bring up a good point. Being a talented left-handed you may want to look into baseball. in the baseball HoF, there are 84 HoF pitchers. 18 are left-handed giving a 21% representation.

Also, I'm sure Clanton can provide some inside info on UNI that could be helpful to us as well.
Yeah but they'll also have a solid understanding on Clanton as well, although I think it plays more into our favor more than theirs.

Do you honestly think he's going to discuss injuries?
It's also not going to be as juicy as most fans want. There's no conspiracy out there.

"Well, we certainly like Greg, he's made some elite plays in camp, and we look forward to seeing him compete as a young player in our program who is still learning what it takes at this level."

Fans get way too hyped about star rankings.

Have you seen them in person? They hold that weight well!
I have only seen Jim Bonifas up close. But this was back when he was a wee lad in high school. At the time I realized he had yet to experience a collegiate weight program, but I was kind of shocked at the time, that he was being offered a scholarship to play OL for Campbell. He just did not appear to be very imposing. Last time I saw him was the summer before his initial fall camp.
