It was all really bad today offensively. That TD drive with the clock management and tempo was one of the worst I’ve seen. Just an opinion but that was what I thought to be the worst I’ve seen in a long long…..long long time. Christ
Sure it would have been nice to score quicker. It would have given our defense a bigger margin of error, not having to get a 3 & out. It would have allowed our plodding offense to not be rushed to run a 2 minute offense.

But our time consuming scoring drive was a MUCH better result than not scoring on that drive. It's not like our offense over powered Iowa's defense on that TD drive (or the whole game). Higgins made a TOUGH one handed grab on 4th down with Brecht in distress.

I have been a Cyclone fan for about 60 years. Longer if you count me as a legacy at birth. We have a new OC. New OL coach. Lost 5 players including the starting QB and RB due to gambling scandals.

I have seen Campbell fire his OC and OL coaches. And he hired a special teams coach. I am more hopeful for the rest of the season than I was before. Iowa has an elite defense. Their expected win total is between 9 and 10 games. We made a few mistakes. Move on. Learn from it. Improve.

So how many times have we said these kinds of things after losses? Lots. When is it finally going to get better and improve? Instead it's the same excuses every year.

Okay Matt! Oh, and by the way Matt... your starting QB is Becht, not Brecht.

OMG... he does it all the time.

If an ISU fan can go watch Matt's entire press conference after the game yesterday and not come away being completely ticked off... I question if you're a true fan that cares about us winning games.

I know he's a professional at not answering any questions and lying about nearly everything in these press conferences... but at least show an ounce of giving a s**t about winning these games for once would be appreciated. He actually seemed quite happy yesterday.... was so happy about his team not giving up and getting that last TD drive. It wasn't about winning... never was it seems. He basically said he went into the game knowing we'd make mistakes and get behind, and he just wanted to see how we responded to that. And he liked what he saw there, so it was a 'win' in his mind.

So if I'm not pissed off after a generic post-game presser that tells us nothing, I'm not a true fan?

Maybe you should get outside a bit. It's nice out.

So Campbell must make a Bowl game this year or be fired? JFC
Every season we have beaten UNI and lost to Iowa we have gone to a bowl. ;)

On a serious note, it is getting annoying to see massive overreactions to a young team coming up short. I thought the team really grew late in this game and I think Higgins may be a weapon for this season.

I’m obviously disappointed by CMC Iowa’s record but tbh, this isn’t the CPR days where we needed the win in order to make a bowl game. The next two games are very winnable with our defense. Just need to keep winning the TO battle and get explosive plays.

Why is this team so young and inexperienced all over the field? Who is to blame for that? Did all our players leave early and enter the NFL Draft last year or what? I must have missed that?

What was the excuse the year we were predicted to win the Big 12 with all our experience.... but laid an egg? I can't remember the excuse that year?

Haha, good stuff here.

Yeah now all of a sudden we’re just CRAZY young and all we should really be hoping for is little bits of improvement throughout the year. We should NOT care about wins. It’s not about wins. We’re just SO young!

Next year too, we’ll still be kinda young! So at least 22 more games with that mindset.

You talking 2021? They weren't predicted to win the Big 12. They underachieved but the talent level is being overstated. It was a lesson that you can't just recreate the previous season's success just 'cuz.

The back end in the secondary was leaky and while X was good, there was still not really anyone to hit over the top in the WR room.

Well we lost five starters to gambling and everything we have heard is that the staff have always stressed not to gamble so those guys were morons.

Outside of that in college there is ebbs and flows with experience since players do have to move on. Some of inexperienced is actually from talented recruits coming in.

If you want more high end transfers. We gotta donate more to the NIL. I donate but from what I’ve heard Iowa State had one of the lower NIL collectives in the nation in terms of cash.

Iowa State was projected to win 4 games this season. I think we will win more but maybe I don’t see the sky falling because of an early season loss.

For the people saying scheme is the problem, I’d like to hear what scheme you think this team is winning in. Scheme doesn’t fix receivers dropping balls and bad playcalling.
Scheme is calling the plays that THESE players can execute, not the ones that you had expected to have instead. The solution in the short term is probably limiting the offence some until practices solve the problems (dropped balls, bad pass running, bad line blocking, bad etc.

If you design a series of plays and one or more are not suited to the players on the field, the series fails.

Tbf, that is in reference to your inexperience question. If you want experience transfers, college football has unfortunately turned into an arms race which Iowa State is disadvantaged in.

I’m on your side that our offense is putrid. When we had deep threats like Butler we did see more explosive plays. I hope Higgins can turn into something similar since I thought he started to make a name for himself in the second half. There clearly is something off with our WR recruiting since I felt like outside of a handful of guys we haven’t be able to replace the targets we had in CMC early tenure.

I was pretty hopeful last week against UNI when I saw the whole offense come out with the wristbands on. I though sweet a whole new offense and the bands are to help with the new plays and formations etc. Well now I see that wasn’t the case for the wristbands.

When I saw the wristbands I actually got a little worried. Like, why do o-linemen need playbook wristbands??? I suppose after last year I shouldn't be surprised with how many procedural and false start penalties, but an o-lineman should absolutely not need a ******* wristband.

Next year the excuse will be that the o-line is too young (they're the oldest position group this year by far).

There's times in the season where there's a 'get back to basics' moment to sync things up but that's to get back to the foundation that was set that may have slipped in a sloppy game. Totally normal.

In any successful season in the CMC era, it's taken a month before ISU has come out looking like a fundamentally sound team but the poor fundamentals tend to show through at some point later since that's where things started.

Is it that much of a downgrade in talent? It's less experience but I'm not seeing a full step downgrade.

And hasn't ISU gone up in recruiting rankings/classes each year?

I might just be flat wrong but I'm seeing more potential on offense and am not ready to write off the season.
So it all comes down to coaching during practice. They need to be able to coach up the players and fix bad habits. Apparently the players are slow, or the teachers are inept.

I've said it in prior seasons but I'd really like to see what August camp is like.

They need the wristbands because it's hard to remember all the runs up the middle plays in your head. Duh!

I can already see that this is going to be the pro-Cyclone media narrative going forward the rest of the season.

Same old crap; OL is huge! Much improved! Violence! Youngest team! One score losses! 2-3 plays are the difference and they will clean it up!
