I worked at the Hut for four years during high school and part of college. It's a shame what has happened to that place. We used to fresh cut veggies, make our own dough and even mix our own sauce daily. Now everything is canned and frozen.
Sounds as though we have found our reason(s)…….

Sirloin Stockade is a coffee shop I think. Godfrey's Ale House was Pizza Hut?
The Courier story I saw about the Stockade being sold said it was going to be Godfrey’s. But looking at the Google Street View and matching it up with my 45-years-ago memory, I think you’re right … the Sassy Sunflower coffee shop looks like it’s in the old Stockade and Godfrey’s appears to be the old Pizza Hut location. And the old Fiesta Cantina is now a pizza place, go figure.

Speaking of that area of town and in line with this thread - remember the A&W drive-in that was across the highway? And the Warehouse Market that was further north on 63? My Mom did all her grocery shopping there for a long time. And the Target? Ottumwa had a Target before Targets were cool - they were like a notch below KMart back then.

Do you guys not visit Hardees? They still serve 3 or 4 varieties of the Frisco breakfast sandwich.
That’s great to know and glad they brought it back then. We don’t have Hardees out here in CT, and I have been here for 13 years so sadly no Hardees for over a decade. But I know they got rid of the original Frisco years ago so hope it’s still the same one now.

As a kid we went out to north Ottumwa to eat at Sirloin Stockade and go to Target. Hy-Vee was next door and I think Warehouse BBQ was video/liquor store back then.

Middle of the Midwest
That Pizza Hut in Ottumwa would have been owned by Ivan Teinson, not sure on the spelling. He started with Pizza Hut when they first opened up their franchises and his territory was Southern Iowa and Northern Missouri, at one time he owned all the Pizza Huts around Ottumwa, Fairfield, Kirksville he had around 15 or so total if I remember correctly. Also owned the Mexican place in the North part of Ottumwa and the Steak place beside it. Built his corporate offices out by the city golf course north of Ottumwa. Guys was worth 10's of millions off selling pizza.

Fiesta Cantina and Sirloin Stockade, I believe it was. I remember when both those places opened. I definitely contributed to his millions in earnings, lol.

(Ivan Tennyson was the name, it popped up when I was researching how long ago Sirloin Stockade opened. 1974, it was … he sold the place in 2019. That’s a long restaurant run!)

He passed away five years ago or so, and they have started to sell of his assets, Sirloin Stockade is now a sports bar, and Festa Cantina is now Mike's Pizza.

These are all hitting me right in the nostalgia spot. I grew up in Ottumwa, but haven't lived there in 25 years. My folks had to move away too, so mostly just memories now. . . .
Funny that in my youth, I viewed Sirloin Stockade as a "fancy" restaurant. (There was at least 1 other one in another town ... Burlington maybe???). Ivan Tennyson lived about a half mile from me he was on "ritzy" Birchwood Drive. Had a bowling alley in his house (supposedly).

You could be right; Tennyson owned all three properties right there. The property to the North was a Mexican restaurant, the middle property is now a sports bar or something, it could have been the pizza hut and the southern property that was the steak place according to google maps is coffee shop.

We have eaten at the Mike's Pizza 4 or 5 times, in the old Fiesta Cantina building, and they get a good crowd, decent food. Never been to the other two spots. The Hy Vee across the street to the east is closing this month some time. Really it was the nicer Hy Vee of the two in Ottumwa.

I always thought this was never given a chance. There was a taste difference from diet but it wasn't really enough but why can't they make a "light" version with only 25-50 calories?

Funny enough, I work with Tyler Raineri now. He’s got a good story about this flavor being a finalist.
