I'm hoping we hear Juicy Wiggle blasted over the stadium speakers over and over and over again (which will mean we're winning) and the national TV audience will see what an incredible environment Jack Trice Stadium is.
They only play it after the first, 2nd half TD.

Whatever we do, I hope we start with some amazing play to pump up the crowd.
The Jack should be electric before kickoff. Any kind of a good start at all and our environment will be insane!

I've thought about this... I'd be curious to see the book on us as far as the first play of the game goes. I'd bet it's very often a vanilla play designed to see how the opposing defense is going to cover us.

Wouldn't it be awesome to break trend with something like a flea flicker / double pass for that very first play or at least first set of downs?

lol if you are about to compare and contrast tailgating between KU and Ames, then you best hold on to your britches.
oh there's no comparing and contrasting, I'm pretty sure Northwestern has a better game day atmosphere than Lawrence.

Being a longtime fan, I would be shocked if that happened. We normally tend to under perform in huge games like this. But who knows. Campbell has done a lot of things that nobody else has ever been able to do at ISU, maybe he can pull this off.
This doesn't seem right.

We had 0 big games like this last year.

In 2021 we crushed Kansas, Texas and TCU and beat #7 Oklahoma State.

In 2019 we lost to OSU on homecoming, so there might be one. Later beat Texas though.

In 2018, we lost to #5 Oklahoma after having no offense against Iowa, so I don't think that game qualifies. We crushed #6 West Virginia in a huge game. We beat a 5-2 tech team on homecoming. We crushed Baylor to get bowl eligible and then had an amazing rally to beat KSU in a night game.

In 2017, after stunning Oklahoma on the road, we curb stomp Kansas and beat #4 TCU. We did then lose to #12 Okie State.

So in the Matt Campbell era, there are really only 3 huge home games games where you can say Iowa State underperformed and only 2 were losses. 2019 against Okie State a late pick by Purdy did us in, but it wasn't like we laid an egg. OSU finished 8-4. 2018 against KSU was a win. KSU was an average team and so was Iowa State, so that's not really laying an egg. 2017 against OSU was against a ranked team who finished in the top 20.

In the Matt Campbell era, when looking at 'huge' home games, Iowa State has over performed far more than underperformed.

we'll really find out how much our LB's have progressed this game. containing the multi-headed run game that has plenty of lateral speed will determine if this is a close game/loss or not. If we can bottle up the run and put KU in third-and-longs, I feel really good about the secondary forcing a turnover or 2. I think the offense scores 28+, but I'm concerned about the defense in this one.

KU receivers are underwhelming I think. So the safeties will be creeping up a LOT I would bet. Might look like 5 LBs almost.

It is so nice to be playing some meaningful games in November. Even if we don't have success the next few games, it will be a valuable learning experience for this young team.
Hey, beat KU, win at BYU (neither a given, but certainly possible) and they are 6-1 in conference, staring at the CCG. That makes the last two games vs KSU and Texas about as meaningful as it gets.

I don't think they will get to the CCG, because I don't think they will win out, and even 3 of 4 the tiebreakers don't seem favorable. But having a shot at it with 2 games to go is infinitely better than wallowing around the bottom half of the league.

At least it'll be too cold Sat for KU fans to wear their boat shoes right?
I stopped in Lawrence a few months ago to get gas. There were four guys in line with literally the same clothes and haircut. I guess they get enough of the southern frat influence in Kansas.

Thanks!

I got to admire the bridge during RAGBRAI, but didn't cross it because I was already 99 miles into my day and my campsite was the other direction.

Looking forward to the game, tailgating at KU in September was one of the saddest things I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen some stuff over the years. Those people do not deserve nice things
Not sure what lots you're referring to as all of the lots are southeast of campus ;) If they are public lots, they will fill up gradually, but I wouldn't worry about getting shut out or anything.

Take a lap around the stadium to take in the different lots. Walk over the bridge to check out the RV Village. Take in the dumbass college atmosphere (I say that with love) in the student lots south of the stadium.

It's all a traditional tailgating setup with tents, food, music, tailgating games, football tosses, TV setups, and the like. It's just on a massive scale and it's all within a mile of the stadium. Talk to people and they'll hook you up.

It should be one of the better pregame atmospheres in JTS history. We're still working out some kinks on the pregame entrance, but it sounds like it improved a lot a few weeks ago with the fireworks and what not. I'd get in before team entrances.

that is a fantastic low-key burn. You're gonna fit in well here.
The night before we played KU the Chiefs had their season opener. We walked around KU's campus and downtown and on 3-4 occasions had a jeep or range rover full of dudebros, all in Kelce or Mahomes jerseys, shout "Illinois sucks" or "<redacted> Illinois!!" at us... plus some trash talking on Mass Ave, also only from dudes in Kelce jerseys.

Literally the only trash talking we heard all week, not a single person said a thing to us on Friday before or after kicking our asses.
