Looking at the stats tonight and there were a couple that surprised me in a good way

Robert Jones is shooting 75% from the field

Curtis Jones has a 3.8-1 assist to turnover ratio
C Jones only had 2 TOs on the season going into A&M. He’s also really good on defense. He had a rough last 25 mins of that game but other than that, has been good even when shooting poorly.

Yeah, he's been in a shooting slump to start the season, but if he gets it together and starts dropping shots at a normal rate, he's definitely a plus player.

Lipsey went from hardly shooting to probably shooting more than anyone else. He’s still point guard and needs to distribute the ball to open shooters. Milan seems to make more baskets when he squares up with the basket, and Omaha is still learning where he needs to be on the court to get comfortable but in and out so quickly is not giving him a chance to do that!

Some good updates from TJ here. Imo he's great at pointing out some issues (Jones taking ill-advised shots vs. ball movement) while not throwing them under the bus and still talking about they can do.

Get the heck off Jones. He’s a big asset.

I'm not 'on' Jones. I can understand that there's a reason he plays beyond points and that ISU doesn't have a bunch of guys that can just fill in at any moment to appease a few message boarders.

TJ is in the video talking about it.

Don't look now, but Texas A&M got shellacked at full strength tonight, by Virginia.

Va Tech got drubbed by Auburn, for their 2nd ugly loss in a row since beating us convincingly.

ISU needs to step it up big time if they're going to be as good as we thought they were a week ago.

I would guess some folks overstepped their confidence in just how good the team is.

Imo it's not a great sign that ATM and Va Tech both had pretty significant athletic advantages and are probably both lower seed tourney teams.

Are you sure they were full strength? Had guys averaging 13 and 9 pts a game that didn't see the court. Lost by 12, at Virginia. Not exactly shellacked, but if it fits the point...

Auburn had 7 days off and their last game was a single, not 3 games in 4 days. Va Tech played 3 games in 4 days and then had to go on the road to play at Auburn.

Exact same thing with Virginia, they had 7 days off and Texas A and M had to go on the road.

That is a tough deal for both teams. Now let's reverse this, give A and M and VT a week off and let them play at home against teams that just got done playing 3 games in 4 days and I bet they win big too.

Yep. Fact of the matter is that we didn't play well at all at that tournament, and lost to a couple decent but not great teams. Should have won, didn't. Onto the next.

Very encouraging. He addressed all the issues very soundly. I really like how he talked about being more patient on offense instead of guys trying to play hero ball.

I guess I don't know if other guys were out or not, but the 2 guys who missed against us both played.

EDIT: One of the two played. Henry Coleman III. The other guy, last name Radford was still out.

I ask again, who is we? If someone was making a determination of how good we were or were going to be based on the games we had played up to a week ago, that is on them.

Certain analytics had us as the #1 team in the country (Bartorvik) and there was some sunshine pumping from the local media, who shall remain nameless, but he is very influential on this website and in Cyclone media generally speaking. The margins of victory, albeit against sisters of the poor, were quite larger than what we have seen thus far in TJ's tenure. Combine that with the excitement surrounding some of the players that were brought in to play this season, and you had people thinking sky was the limit for this years team. Recent events have me thinking we'll be on the play-in line heading into March. At best.

CW I believe said ISU is a three seed.

On this week's cast they were saying last week might be a drop in seed.

We'll see how things go (Omaha figuring it out, guys sticking to the plan, and Tre and Ward healthy should help) but a 16-0 run is still a 16-0 run.

Right on with what you're saying, and it was CW that I was alluding to also.

I think the jury is still out, but safe to say 3 seed is pretty well off the table. I would need to see more games against high level foes before going any further than saying they're more than a 10, 11 seed/bubble type of team.

Omaha in particular has been a let down. And I don't think it is by any fault of his own, it is the coaches not really putting him in any favorable situations or playing to his skill set. And it is really a shame, considering what his goals are and what he sacrificed personally for himself potentially, by committing to play in TJs system.

And Bruce Pearl is still disgusting.

What is his skill set that's D1 level ready?

I understand that but I can't believe someone would base expectations on analytics this early in the season especially with the schedule we've played. That simply doesn't make sense to me. Right now, I don't know what to expect and anything more than that is just a guess which is what message boards are for and I understand that. No biggie, it's just a little pet peeve of mine.
