Much needed victory against a "name" team, after the aTm game I am sure the team and the fans needed a win. Starting to really like what Pav brings to the team, great player off the bench. We had about a two minute stretch in the 2nd half when we were getting steals and fast breaks that the coaches have to love, but the defense overall was a D effort.

Not sure what was going on the fragrant fouls, all looked to me like part of the game, the 1st he went around the DePaul's kid head to block the basketball, the 2nd on us looked bad from the one angle, but from the other looked like a normal play, this could have been called. The one on DePaul was also nothing to write home about. Sometimes you are going to get contact above the shoulder area, but two of the three and maybe all three should have been a quick 30 second look at and play on.

You can't raise your elbow into someone's throat/above the shoulders.

And DePaul's guy can't throw his shoulder into someone.

Even if you have position, you can't do those things.

I liked the clip of TJ getting on the guys about this stuff; don't risk making things harder on yourselves and giving away free points.

Pav looked a little behind in the little time he was getting and has obviously caught up as time has gone on.
I thought last night was the first time he really looked like he had game. Before he brought a lot of energy but he was a bit of a dart with no feathers. Last night this team started to show what they can become. I don't think anyone had a bad game.

Excellent! Ward being out hasn't been mentioned enough. Our best post player Is down right now. Pray he's back for conference. If not worst case redshirt him and get another year. Hope he still has a medical redshirt anyway. Team's going to have to adjust and get productivity in another way. Think that's what we saw in Florida. No one likes to talk about Omaha like that, but you're spot on. Again, worst case we'll have him back next year. Fully expect it because he needs it. See the potential, but a lot of forwards don't make a splash as freshman. Look at King and Omaha standing next to one another. Anyone see an age difference? Team is better when Watson's in imo. Curtis Jones..you did not come down harshly enough on him. Shot selection is terrible and most of the time I see him chucking it up for no good reason. Milan should be our first option long range. Sit Jones and replace him with Pav. His drive penetration is opening things up for Milan. We should be driving and kicking it back out to our shooters every play with Tamin, Gilbert, and Pav on the roster. I'd like to see Pav and Gilbert driving, and kicking it to Lipsey more too. Tamin's outside shot looks way better this year. Congrats to him and the coaching staff there. TJ's players always improve under his coaching. That's a huge factor! Players, coaches, fans can all see that. excited about the future of Cyclone basketball.

First bolded sentence: Can you share an instance when this was true for this team? He hasn't played much and when he was in the team overall wasn't good. He provides length and that's about all we see out of him. Has he guarded well? Did he help to shut down the perimeter?

2nd: are we ignoring that C. Jones didn't do this last night and hit two well timed, rhythmic threes?

Agree. Those were all correct calls. Gilbert did the same thing at the FL tournament, but was lucky it wasn't called. I think it was vs VTech.

But he should have been playing the whole time because players just *snaps* fingers automatically can at a moment's notice! /s

Remember VCU, we had to come from behind in the last minute. They played so well against us. Well, last night on their home court they lost to Norfolk State. So is anyone else wondering, why do so many teams have their best performance against ISU? I mean, even DePaul at times last night was having by far their best night, making almost every 3 pointer. Somehow we bring out the best in others.
We over help, pack the lane and double team so much it leaves 3's wide open.

I don't know why we insist on double teaming big men who are no threat while leaving shooters open.

Since he was our starting center I'd say yes. Who else? Jones? Maybe at times, but Rob needs a break and plays better in spurts. Ward being out hurt the team. Yes, I did notice Jones didn't chuck up a hundred shots. Hope TJ pulled him to the side and pointed out some bad shot selection and quit doing it.

I'm talking about the assertion that the team is better with Watson on the floor. What instance are you referring to this season that shows this?

Gilbert was 8-15 from the floor last night with 7 assists and 1 turnover. If that's out of control we need more of it!

He was on the floor a lot while piling into a crowd. It was better than other games imo.

Yeah why didn't he get out there with about 15 minutes left last night after ISU put the game on ice?

20 point leads are automatic Ws when everyone on the court can hit threes.

If you can’t see the difference between playing Omaha up 20 to get him good minutes and the CEO in garbage time, not sure it’s worth engaging in any discussion.

The problem is we are asking him to play a position that doesn't fit him

Ii agree that Ward is missed. Defensive energy, rim protection, rebounding. He's not an offensive threat except for lobs. Biggest value is Tre will seldom be the 5 with Ward and RJones available.

You (or someone) mentioned is a previous post the players improve with this staff's coaching. I agree, which is why I don't agree with the "CJones shouldn't play" sentiment. Same with posts about Pav a couple weeks ago. He's improving. So will Curtis.
