We have stayed at Best Western in Ames with our lab mix. I think they allow dogs up to 80 pounds but they aren’t going to weigh your golden.

We always try to get an Air BnB with the dog first though.

My brothers were at ISU in your era. One lived in Helser and you could easily see Clyde Williams from his room.

Make sure to spend some time driving around central campus.
Definitely. Part of the plan to visit all the old sites and hangouts (if they still exist!)

I graduated a few years after you. If you haven't been to Ames for a while you will barely recognize it. I haven't been back to a game since 2016 or so (right before they finished enclosing the south end zone.)

I tried to get back for Baylor but when it moved to a night game it didn't work out.

Just a FYI and why I don’t go to night games since we live 3 hours away. It takes a long time after the game to exit the parking lots to get on Hwy 30. I’ve waited an hour at times in a line in the car to get out. If the game is not in doubt, I leave my seat with 3 minutes left. You can catch the end of the game on the radio while sitting in line and the post game analysis and call ins are interesting.

First game I remember was in 1956 at Clyde Williams. My Dad was a letterman & we’d walk up to the Ticket window & he’d show his Letterman ID & they’d hand us tickets, no charge. He was a wrestler and graduated in ‘38 so he had FB friends. Ed Bock was the stud and a pal. I’ve been reading about the 6-0 start, ‘38 went 7-1-1. Anyway……the difference between Clyde Wms & Jack Trice you will find is more than the difference between McDonalds & Ruth Chris Steakhouse. There was no tailgating then & now it’s all about the tailgating.

Oh man, crazy long time from Clydes. Your going to love it!

I think everything to recommended probably changes from your broken foot and how much would you walk to. Also the ADA permit for parking. Trying not to ask about the going last time on Clydes of ages.
I'm certain we will! Yes, crazy but just too far to drive from Texas. Now closer in Kentucky. Can't wait. And Clyde Williams had its charms...Johnny Majors, George Amundson, albeit a little crowded.

I’m over joyed with the progress our game day experience and stadium has made since the early 2000s. I can’t even imagine the difference since the 70s. Enjoy!!
Yes, it will be great fun! But it wasn't all bad in the early 70s, George Amundson was an elite athlete drafted first round in '73. Johnny Majors was a hoot. And we nearly beat nationally ranked #2 Nebraska. Unfortunately, the extra point was missed! Ugh!

I think you go back a little further than me! But maybe you were a baby in 1956? How cool to have a "celebrity" Dad. Well, can't wait to see it all. New memories to make. (I really like Ruth's Chris!)

Do you have a handicap tag or hanger? In lots S1/S2 that have some ADA parking, not sure about how to obtain those. The grass lot public parking isn't too far (less than 1/2 mile) but it is currently sold out. Otherwise, it's going to be a bit of a walk as you may have to park south of HWY 30 or on campus.

Tailgating is in literally every lot in around the stadium, so take your pick!
As you near the stadium, carts will probably notice you and give you a lift!

Clyde Williams was rowdy and awesome! Still have a great home field advantage—fireworks and now drones! Same welcoming fans. Enjoy!

Gotta get in that handicap area! Those folks tailgate well. Nice folks. Close to the stadium.

(From my limited experience)

Ah, yes. Hope there will be another opportunity for you. I'm sure I won't recognize much of it.. Although I doubt Ames would recognize me either! I wish I knew what time this game is being played! Can't seem to find anything but TBD. So how do I know when do I start driving???
