He’s still recruiting at an all time level and is very beloved based on his time at Duke and as K’s hands picked successor. He’s got a very long leash
Oh yeah I agree his leash is long but I could also see fans getting antsy if they bow out early this year.

Meh, let me know how those freshmen do over the course of the year. They are obviously high-level talents, but they are 17. The difference in last nights game was Duke relying on 17 year olds late, and Kentucky relying on 22 year olds late. The good coaches have figured out the kid to success is getting experience in the off-season.

I’m assuming like many super star freshman they will get better as the year goes on. Relying on a kid that is the unanimous number 1 pick that all the NBA players were raving about around the Olympics is a pretty good strategy.

But totally agree that the veteran leadership and experience pays dividends. Kansas has a really good mix which is why I have them as my favorite this year (barf)

Scheyer has underachieved so far at Duke in noncon play.
2023 lost to KU, Purdue, best noncon win was Xavier
2024 lost to Arizona, Purdue, best noncon win was Baylor
2025 lost to UK, and has those games I mentioned

I don't know what Duke fan's patience level are but that could get dicey.

I understand that but I’m his two years they have gone 27-9 each year and made the elite 8 last year. I understand what their expectations are as a program, but taking over for a legend and getting your feet set as a head coach takes a little time.

They don’t hang banners for November games. Fans may get restless, but not for games prior to New Year’s Day.

That part I don't know. Some may. ACC is basically 5th best conference now so these wins/losses probably matter.

The thing I would be worried about is Coach K probably picked him. Probably plenty of instances where that's worked and hasn't.

To say it hasn’t worked so far is a stretch. It’s not like they are mediocre. They are winning a bunch of games still. Elite 8 last year and have the best college freshman in quite some time.

I didn't say it hasn't worked. He definitely could get it rolling. Following a legend can be really tough.

Duke is going to be tough come March. Might as well mark it down that we'll be in their region.

It would take Nebraska level stupidity to can a 27-9 coach.

Minnesota just lost to North Texas at home.
There isn't many teams out there that are the only Power 4 school in a decent size state, that is located in a large city, in the most lucrative league in college athletics and continue to just underachieve at football and basketball.
Minnesota is definitely on the list if there was one and looks like they continue that tradition this year again.

It truly is mind boggling.
I attribute a lot of it to it being a pro sports town but it shouldnt be this bad.
