I think he has said it covertly. For instance, the fan appreciation rant, the countless times he mentions how much he loves coaching Iowa State and how this is his want to have job. Just my opinion.

No, it would have been controversial had he hired TJ in 2010 like many here wanted.
TJ in 2021 had been a head coach for 6 years so it wasn't like he was coming here with no experience. Plus, everyone and their dog knew who was next in line once Prohm stubbed his toe one too many times.
He has done a great job and every year at ISU has been successful year per ISU standards.
And if he wants to leave for another job, I don't think he will, more power to him. I don't care that he said it was his dream job.....so did Fred Hoiberg. And I don't hate Fred. Next man up as they say.
They haven't been beyond the Sweet 16 since the Mike Davis team that went to the Final Four while LE was still here.
So a somewhat low bar on terms of what initial success is needed to satiate

Disagree, 5 firings or force outs in 18 years points to a demand to win early that has not been offset by higher levels of funding. ISU's tournament success has been very similar to Indiana's, but does not come with a cloud of termination following one about. Mac left town before things got that far, and Prohm was the only other. In my obviously biased view, Iowa State is as good a basketball job as there is in this country without being a blue blood. The ONLY THING to really knock it for, is donor support, and part of the problem with that is ISU fans have come to EXPECT that they can get more for less in Ames. Obviously in the NIL age, that has changed. TJ hasn't been dinged by that here so far, but you never know.
I’m an early TJ adopter but not THAT early. Definitely wanted him in after Fred left.
Fred was pretty clear BEFORE he got the ISU job that his ultimate job goal was coaching in the NBA. ISU was a great opportunity but he never said it was his ultimate goal. Pollard knew he wanted to coach in the NBA before he even hired him.
This “they fire too quickly” perception has rarely prevented coaches from making a jump.
Do you think a coach would be fired there having the same success TJ has had at ISU?
Because a guy like TJ isn’t doubting he could do that at a place like IU

Woodson is retiring. Miller got fired after 4, but had less success than Prohm.
That’s not too different than ISU. JP has fired after 6 seasons and 3 seasons. Hard to argue McDermott was wanted after 4

I've said in this thread Otz may leave in the near future, but I feel like there's been a negative correlation between smoke and fire when it comes to Campbell, i.e., the more reporters who float his name or say teams would be wise to interview him, the less substance there is behind it. I could be misremembering, but the few NFL interviews he's actually agreed to didn't seem to have the media whirlwind surrounding them that you see every time a P4 coach gets fired and he's added to The List. This seems similar to that. As @Statefan10 pointed out, what other names would you even float? It's a short list, with May getting extended and Pitino having so much success. Speaking of, we can take some solace in knowing the coach of the extremely well-heeled Michigan was directly confronted about whether or not he'd consider leaving for a team in the same conference.sorry if already posted. Also, I'm sincerely asking, but is Fanta even that plugged in? I don't know who Fox markets as its lead CBB reporter, but I'm not sure Fox has broadcast a single Big 12 game involving two conference teams. Rothstein and Norlander are the only reporters I see breaking CBB news, and they haven't even addressed Indiana's targets to my knowledge. If you wanted to get super conspiratorial you could maybe latch on to the fact that Otz hasn't addressed the situation, but I don't think he's been asked about it, and I truly believe coaches who don't plan to take a job don't want to even think about opportunities before the season is over (unless their team is awful). Indiana's gonna have to make a move soon, no? You don't want to go through the strange player-compensation transition completely without a coach. I guess if ISU loses first round IU would have about a week to get everything in order. But that's cutting it close
You don't have to be plugged in to say Indiana should have TJ at the top of their list. I'm sure he is near the top. No one is reporting that TJ is actually interested in the job. There is no point in TJ responding to every media list of coaching candidates he shows up on. That's going to happen a lot.
Don’t have much knowledge on how plugged in Fanta is but he is just throwing out a name with TJ because for him, it makes sense. To those in the know, TJ is at his “dream” school. Now, that doesn’t mean Iowa State can put the program on coast mode, they’re going to still have to show him that they’re doing the right things to keep his program up there and competitive as far as NIL, facilities, etc. But as long as that continues and Otz is happy with where they’re at, he won’t look elsewhere.
Very similar to Campbell. They don’t need to get in front of the media after every podcaster or analyst claims they’d be a good fit or they’re on some schools hypothetical list of candidates.
Possibly every single opening in the Big 10, SEC, and small chunk of the Big East.
