One way we could improve next year is the ability to stop dribble penetration with more athletic guards. I believe the freshmen will be a big part of that athleticism infusion.

I hear Anthony Davis of Kentucky is coming to ISU to be closer to home. He doesn't want to risk getting drafted by anyone other than the Bulls or Bucks.

But the only place ejim could start is the 4. If it came down to it, u really think ejim would start over clyburn? not a chance.

Ejim can play the 3 in a more traditional offense...he isn't a great shooter but you have to respect his shot as he can hit it if open.

Wouldn't be surprised if we put out a big lineup at times like

Lucious
Clyburn
Ejim
Niang
Gibson

just to change things up or if Babb is in foul trouble.

Ejim CAN play the 3 in spurts. Thats why i said start. I dont see ejim being able to play more than 10 minutes a game at the 3 unless it was soley for defensive reasons. Ejim will not be the starting 3 next year.... But Hopefully by 2013 he can play the 3, so him, Niang and Percy can start.

Ya that could be an insanely good front line..the question for 2013 is who will be our guards? Will Long be good enough to step in at PG when Lucious leaves? and will Dorsey-Walker be good enough to get playing time? Will we bring in transfers to fill that void?

We shouldnt be worrying about that right now... But i still am. I think long is the real deal and we will have bubu. It honestly wouldnt surprise me if bubu and long started that year. I dont see Okoro starting in 2013 because we will need a shooter out there, so either long or SDW at the 2.... But yes, i can almost guarentee fred will get a juco guard or D-1 transfer to help out that year. We will be losing ALOT after this season.

Melvin will start next year. Once you take out your team's best rebounder, you struggle. Mel is going to be damn good and deserves to be a 4 year starter.

This is why I think we should add soph TJ McConnell, PG from Duquesne. He would sit a year, and then have two to play starting in 2013. He avg'd 11 ppg, and 5.5 apg.

Yea I think transfers are a complete waste of time, they are trouble makers, thugs and the like, why would anyone want them, you could never mold a bunch of transfers into a winning team.

Please show me where I said it didn't work this year. I didn't.

I simply said that I'm not sure how long you can depend on that strategy?

Why don't people understand that who starts doesn't really matter with Fred as the coach. 6-7 guys will get starter type minutes regardless of who is actually in the starting lineup.

Even if he can't play the "3", those three could still start together. People are getting too hung up on who is playing SF, PF, C, when it actually doesn't matter. In 2013, I could see a lineup of

Samuel
Thomas
Ejim
Niang
Gibson

I'm really high on Thomas and Samuel too, but I don't see them starting over Long and SDW as freshmen. They would play a lot of minutes though

I think we are going to see a monster 3 recruited or transfer in for the 2013-14 season. Ejim's game is best suited as a small 4 and while I'm sure ME will still see spurts at the 3 overall I'd rather see two really good options at the 4. One thing we all have seen in CFH's short tenure is not all of next year's pieces have to be on this year's roster. Today I see a 2013-14 rotation something like this but it will change multiple times over the next 18 months.

5) Gibson and a shot blocker with length (Pelle? or someone similar)
4) Ejim and Niang
3) Okoro and (a recruit or transfer)
2) SDW and (Thomas when he finally commits)
1) Long and Palo or (Samuel or another 2013 recruit)
and the guy listed first won't necessarily be the starter.

I do think you bring up a good point. Not sure I'd really want 7 seniors on the team next year or not.... unless of course we get to the final four or something.

Obviously, if you lose two players that don't appear like they'll ever contribute much, and you pick up two players that will contribute, that has to be a positive, but all these one year transfers I think will come back to haunt you.

If anything, get a transfer that has 2 or 3 years left, that would help dramatically IMO over a one year guy.

I think a good rule of thumb would be that you don't bring in more transfers in any given year than you do freshmen. IMO, as long as you are bringing in more true freshmen each year than transfers, you should be ok. I just don't want to get to the point where we're bringing in 3 transfers and one freshmen or something like that. I don't think that's healthy long term for the program.

I'm not opposed to giving Bubu one of them if we can't find anyone worth bringing in. I don't understand why there's all the hate for this kid? He has in fact deserved a scholarship, that is not even in question in my mind. But if he's willing to be a walk-on so Fred can get more help, that's just frosting on the cake.

But Bubu is deserving of a scholarship, that's not even up for debate. Fred said something to the affect after the Kentucky game that our ability to defend Kentucky's guards down the stretch suffered dramatically when Bubu fouled out. Go back and check it.... that's what he said. He basically said he was our best defender out there that night. If you don't think that kid deserves a scholarship, you're crazy.

But like I said, if Bubu's willing to forgoe the scholarship so Fred can bring in more depth to win more games, that's great.

I'm in with a lot of this.

Unless Fred finds 2 can't-pass-up players who fit with his overall plan, one of the schollies ought to go to Bubu.

It's not like he's a water-carrier eating up bench space.

We know how he can play.

He isn't going to leave the team for lack of playing time.

He won't feel entitled to more playing time.

If you have a capable, loyal, hard-working guy at the 8th or 9th spot, and you have scholarships available, keep him.

yeah he does.

Why don't we all just let Fred decide who deserves scholarships? No one here knows anything. It's all speculative guesses and opinions.

For all we know, Bubu is ok with no scholarship if it improves the team.
