I'll be cheering for the A's if the Royals don't make it. They may need to make a Moneyball sequel.

Luckily they won't be facing any starters as bad as Guthrie in the playoffs.

I'd take Detroit's rotation any day over Oakland's. Along with just about any baseball analyst that isn't a closet A's fan.
So you'll a rotation where none of the top 4 have an ERA under 3 over a team where their top 4 all have an ERA under. 3? That's probably a good indicator of why you never win in fantasy baseball as well.

I didn't realize fantasy baseball had anything to do with the Tigers owning the A's...

You know what this reminds me of? All the Twins fans year after year saying that this was the year because their numbers were better and they acquired better players at the deadline, and every year they got owned by the Yankees.

In the 2010s substitute the A's and Tigers.

A's fans can run their mouths all they want, but bottom line is they've won nothing, especially from the Tigers, and until your team actually does your words are empty. Everyone else in baseball might be afraid of the A's, but that doesn't include anyone in Detroit because the A's have no recent history of beating the Tigers. So yeah, go ahead and talk. The Tigers will just continue beating the A's.

Yea I kind of chuckle at everyone handing the AL pennant to Detroit because of the Price trade. What has Price proven in the postseason as a starter? Verlander has been average at best this year and will take a rotation spot from either Sanchez or Porcello in the playoffs. how about the bullpen...they completely blew the ALCS last year. Detroit is a damn good team but slow down on saying they're a runaway favorite.

All this talk of Detroit and Oakland...I'd laugh if Anaheim ended up winning the pennant

I'm actually a lot more concerned about the Angels than I am the A's - they actually won the season series against the Tigers this year.

You didn't listen to anything I said earlier. Four of those seven games against the A's this year, the Tigers faced a pitcher who won't be on the A's starting rotation in October. That really skews that 2-5 record that you're so insistent upon.

I guess the A's can't hit. Only 8 runs so far today and the game isn't even over yet. Why do you hate the A's so much?

Coming from a fan of neither one of these teams, I will take the rotation with the last 3 AL Cy Young award winners.

Although, I will be cheering for the A's to win the WS if the Cards dont.

That's the funny thing about winning and losing streaks, regular or post-season. They ALL end at some point, many times when you don't expect them to. NO ONE should be overconfident at this point. Oakland is in a dog fight for the AL West (but will likely make the playoffs regardless, barring total collapse) and Detroit hasn't shown a real ability to pull away and STAY away from the rest of the Central (yet).

Seems a fair opinion especially with Detroit's starters experience in the playoffs.
That is still past and the present perfomance, if you look at the ERA's this year, the A's would look to have the better staff. I think most would take the A's relief pitching over Detroits with out queston.

A's team 4th in MLB 3.16 ERA Tigers 23rd in MLB 4.04 ERA

John Lester 2.59 David Price 3.11
Scott Kazmir 2.37 Justin Verlander 4.66
Sonny Gray 2.59 Max Sherzer 3.27
Jeff Samardzija 2.92 Anibal Sanchez 3.57
Jason Hammel 3.87 Rick Porcello 3.18

Verlander really hasn't looked like Cy Young Verlander for 2 years and as good as Scherzer and Sanchez are they do have nights were they get wild. There is a reason why the Tiger's needed to get Price.

Hopefully we'll get to see the Detroit/Oakland matchup in the ALCS and let them decide it on the field.

I don't think that's a fair comparison at all. Those 2000s Twins teams got absolutely destroyed by the Yankees (winning just 2 games to the Yankees' 12 while barely scoring half the runs they gave up).

The Oakland/Detroit series has actually been pretty competitive, with each series going to game 5 and just 8 runs separating the two teams (only one game could be considered a blowout). I still put my money on Detroit because I think they'll have favorable pitching matchups, but it's not like Oakland has been or will be a pushover.

Please explain why you think this. I'm not saying you're wrong, just want to know why you think this when Detroit has one of the worst ERA's in the AL versus the 2nd best ERA in the majors. Last year I wouldn't even argue with you about which rotation is better (clearly it was Detroit last year), but they lost Fister, Verlander is awful, and Detroit has just a terrible bullpen.

Here's the OBP and SLG for Detroit's starting pitchers versus the current Oakland roster:

Price: .216/.265
Verlander: .259/.276
Sanchez: .267/.333
Porcello: .296/.313
Scherzer: .352/.491

And the same for Oakland's starters against Detroit:

Kazmir: .345/.513
Gray: .357/.538
Chavez: .360/.439
Lester: .435/.629
Samardzija: never pitched against Detroit

I'd say Detroit's got a clear advantage there...

The A's lost their first home series since May to KC over the weekend. Might as well get a slump out of the way now, so they're firing at 100% by September and can claim their 3rd straight AL West title.

Coming from an A's fan of 20ish years, until they win in the postseason, I do not care what ChOakland does in the regular season.

You actually should care. If they don't win, they won't even play in October.

Yeah they haven't exactly come out hitting on all cylinders since the break. Losing a series to KC and a series to Houston doesn't feel so great.
