Seems like he just became a big name because Baylor won it all but he hasn't been a D1 head coach and he has really only been at Christian private schools going back to his time in Texas HS. That is a huge part of Baylor recruiting is selling the religion aspect which suits him specifically because he is definitely very religous forward. I don't know how that translates to recruiting to KSU. Also a lot easier to recruit Texas kids to a Texas school than to KSU. He is going up against Baylor, Texas, Tech, Houston etc. Also, already 55. I don't see this ending well.

That's kind of the Notre Dame recruiting plan. Religious high schools recruit kids to play for their schools on scholarship. Those kids then get funneled to a schools like Notre Dame. Of course, its not a 100% win rate for a school like Notre Dame, but it makes their pipeline and job easier.

Mark Adams is way different. That is a guy who had succeeded as a head coach and actually is the architect of their defense. The guy one some crazy amount of coach of the year honors and different levels of programs.

He got dinged for many of things you listed - too old, had lead a division 1 program, couldn't recruit like Beard. Obviously there is some risk in taking someone who hasn't let a P5 program but where is KSU going to find that person? Is Tang a sure thing, no. Is he the best shot they could take, I think so.

Meh, lot of people I would take over Tang. Tang hasn't led any program except a small private HS. Not just a P5. I just don't see anything that makes him an attractive candidate except for the fact that Baylor won it all. Let's say for whatever reason, Baylor got bounced early last year. Would people want him? I mean he has never had a head coaching job in college basketball? Don't you think that is kind of odd for a 55 year old? Another random thing. He didn't get a degree from college until he was coaching at Baylor.

K-State should have been able to hire a coach with HC experience. Or pull a JP and bring in the no experience home town hero.

Dude is a big part of the turnaround at Baylor. He found Freddy Gillespie out of St. Paul. He has destroyed the transfer portal and recruited well in Louisiana against the SEC. It isn’t easy to recruit to Baylor and yet he has. I think it’s a great hire. I suspect that KSU is in the tournament next year.

Maybe Kansas State should of picked Matt McMahon. That would have been great for us.

Yeah, he has gotten dirty in the recruiting world and got dudes to Baylor but again, that is recruiting a lot of Texas kids to a Texas school.
KSU will not be in the tournament next year.

We don't know what the going rate at Baylor has been.

Yeah. I mean every one was lining up for Macio Teague (UNC-Asheville) and Adam Flagler (Prysbeterian). The whole pay for players is so tiresome. They have found great systems guys. They have transformed players like Mark Vital into all conference players. Time will tell but that KSU team isn’t a total rebuild. There is some talent there. I would have felt a lot better with them hiring some guy that has only coached at the mid-major level at one of the better programs in their conference.

Gotten dirty in recruiting. Unlike who exactly? You mean he payed six figures for Macio Teague (UNC-Asheville) or Adam Flagler (Presbyterian). They are literally taking great Big South Conference players and turning them into Big 12 all-conference players. This isn’t Kansas or Texas people.

Why didn't you use the example of the two McDonald's AAs Baylor is bringing in this year?

Couldn't agree more that documented payment of $300,000 to sign by some programs is not only tiresome, but sad.
