There are 26-27 seniors listed on the roster, not sure how many aren’t scholarship players. Plus potentially losing Breece and McDonald. No way we only sign 18. If we get all 3 WRs, that leaves only one more spot. Probably closer to 22-24 depending on if we get everyone still out there.

I think I read there are 18 scholarship seniors. But there's always attrition. Someone(s) will undoubtedly leave.

My guess is 3 WR if all commit. Townsend at RB and 1-2 DBs. That puts us at 19-20. My other guess is Rose ends up at Stanford

Seems to me like:

3 WRs: They are trending well for Gaines, Essex, Adams. If they miss on one of them, they only take 2 IMO.
1 RB: I think that's Townsend, but if they miss on him, they may just hold off and see what happens in the fall. Worked pretty well last year.
1-2 DBs: I think for sure they get one more Safety. Not sure on if they'll bring in a 2nd CB like Delaine.

Appears that Essex, Gaines, and Adams are mentioned as the most likely to commit next.

If we have 3-4 more to go, who beyond Townsend would be the biggest remaining targets?

Gotta be Greg Delaine and Elijah Davis for the secondary (both visited 6/11) and then maybe Tawfiq Thomas. I assume then you play out the fall to get a feel for how many potential more scholarships you have and monitor any late risers. Or just prep for 2023. Pretty amazing position to be in and July is halfway over. Just a few weeks back when the crystal ball picks for R Mason Thomas to SC came in it seemed like maybe we would miss a few top targets. Then we land Ezeogu, him, and Deyo. Never seen anything like it for ISU football recruiting in the last 10 years.

FIFY.

I hear Earle Bruce’s ‘78 signing class was really, really good though. Chris Boskey and Karl Nelson at the top of it, iirc.

(The year before I started following recruiting)
I could maybe stretch it to 15 years for what I remember personally. But yeah, I've heard the stories of the second ranked class or whatever it was back in the day. I vaguely remember the year we were excited for all the JUCOs that crashed and burned.

Davis and Thomas have impressive offer lists. Has Thomas visited?

Edit: I see Thomas visited on 6/10. And that he also visited Kansas, Michigan, and Georgia Tech.

Just some more random things I've noticed for our current recruiting class if you include Essex, Gaines, and Adams (cart before the horse, I know).

- With those three we'd have 8 Top 750 composite recruits per 247 (Gaines and Adams are Top 750) - we've landed 5 Top 750 guys once before, otherwise 4 is the most we've gotten in previous years.

- Becht and Essex will also likely join Top 750 as they have solid ratings on other sites but likely outdated 247 ratings. That would give 10 Top 750 recruits.

- Every single recruit other than the punter has at least 2 P5 offers - don't think that's ever occurred before.

- We're definitely seeing the benefits of our success over the past few years and the popularity of Campbell. I think top 40 classes are going to be the norm going forward with plenty of opportunity to go higher when we hit on a handful of 4 star guys in a certain year.

247 CB's say we are about to get Essex, Gaines and Adams (rumored to be a silent commit, annoucing on his mom's b-day, good for him)

Greg Delaine is a high priority at DB

If Breece declared for the NFL, we take Xavier Towsend. If for some reason he stays... I doubt we take a RB. So that may take some time to materialize

Xavier Townsend is a take right now.

I don’t think we wait that long to take Townsend. If waiting that long for a RB in this class was the plan, they wouldn’t have had him use his Official Visit in June.
