There has been lots of talk on here about how we're in on transfers and to just wait..well the dudes who could make a huge difference for us continue to pick the same programs each year. I really thought we'd be competing for a trophy and in the running for these types of transfers by year 7, but I realize that may have been wishful thinking.

We don’t have the money the programs that are getting these kids have.

We don't have the donor base to keep up with PSU, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, even ASU. We have probably a top 10 donor base, but if one of the top schools wants a transfer, we just can't keep up. I know the staff has been in on a lot of these kids, but once one of those top schools offers significant NIL money, we are out. It is no longer about how you fit in with the school culture/what you think of the coaching. It is now about how much $$ can you offer the athlete. It is going to ruin college wrestling if there aren't some sort of regulations implemented

What is significant money? $50k+? $75k? $100k? If this is the case and those schools are the only ones that can compete in that market, what are we doing? Let those 5 fight it out every year and the rest of us just go D2.

College wrestling will be a shell of itself in five years if this continues. Hell, if we can't pay "significant" money, how long before our kids are being poached? Because poaching/tampering/buying is what is happening.

It's not a coincidence that in one day Yanni, Dake and Mark Branch are all tweeting about NIL, the portal and transfers....and not in a positive light

I continue to say that I don’t think it’s as much as people think. I’ve talked to a guys in the know and I’ve heard numbers. But no one should be stupid enough to “spend” $75k-$100k to “get” a Nagao to come wrestle and just be an AA for a program. Where is the ROI? It’s just bad business. It makes no sense at all. I’ve hear $10-$25k and even that doesn’t make sense business wise but people with excess money can be irrational. It will all come tumbling down here soon for college athletics if it is truly just a “buy your championship here”. Plus guys are friends and it’s been going on for a year now. If it were really that bad word would get out and the news people would be talking about it. Kids would be bragging and spilling all the beans.

I hope they go back to a penalty for multiple transfers so some of these wrestlers aren’t transferring every year & if they get recruited over, maybe a few get burnt & slow this down.

So I'm asking this in a inquisitive position...what keeps our guys staying if we're not paying them "significantly"? And how do we get more of these high character/caliber kids?

We are paying NIL. Not sure if Yonger can get an NIL since he is a foreigner. The guys getting big NILs are NC and multiple time AA guys. David Carr is the only one of that caliber and I bet his NIL is jumping. No clue how much though.

Only 5 schools have won a national title in the last 34 years. NIL didn’t create the parity problem.

I still think there is a decent possibility the plan may be for Yonger to go to Hwt, if so it would make sense if we aren’t throwing a bunch of money @ Davison and Slav.

I think we are very competitive in the NIL space. It is still an advantage to us with our support and crtc funding, we are in a better spot than everyone except maybe about 5 schools. Just my opinion.
