Their wins over Pitt and NW - two very good teams - kinda impress me...

And that they close out wins even if things aren't going great against teams similar to KSU (like Purdue). Kudos to them.

That said, I'll be glad I'm not in a geographical location around that fan base if/when they pull this off.

Finally some of you are getting it. Not upset with #3, thought it should be higher, but it'll work for now.

Every time I see Iowa in the top 5, my brain freezes up and I start twitching.

Their recruiting class rankings per Rivals since 2011 (NATIONAL/BIG TEN):
2015...#55/#13
2014...#59/#11
2013...#53/#10
2012...#43/#8
2011...#30/#4

OK, OK, recruiting rankings aren't fool-proof. Look at Texas. It's the coaching staff's X/O expertise and player development that makes the difference, right?

But their records from 2011-2014 were:
2014...7-6 (crushed by TN in bowl)
2013...8-5 (lost to LSU in bowl)
2012...4-8 (no bowl)
2011...7-6 (lost to OU in bowl)

Doesn't really look like a lot of progress there. And the Iowa fan base wanted Ferentz canned following last season and the beat down by Tennessee.

It can't JUST be the easy schedule -- they went 7-5 against a crap schedule last year. It can't just be Beathard's play. That's just one player, albeit at an important position.

How does this even happen? Ever? Would anyone who is not a delusional Iowa fan put money on them having no losses at this point of the season? This is like 2+2+2 actually equaling 10. It makes no sense. Is this a sign of the apocalypse? Am I having a 3 month-long nightmare? Can somebody please make it stop?

Why does this bother me? One reason = Iowa fans have mouths.

Because all you have to do is beat every garbage team, middling team, or occasional halfway decent team you schedule by one point and you can get to 11-0.

Iowa lost some close games last year, they've won them this year disproportionately.

Michigan State beats #3 Iowa and now they can jump OU or even ND for the same "no title game" excuse.

If OU wins out it's going to take some major gymnastics to put a 1 loss Big Ten team over them, but everything the committee has ever done suggests that's what they'll try.

I've been around a long time. Kudos to Iowa but I'm astounded pollsters have them at #3, when computer polls (more accurate in week 12) have them between #8---#17

It's insane. And with Osborne and Alvarez on the committee---Big 12 has no shot.

Osborne wields a lot of influence---and has HATED OU since the 1960's. Dr Tom hates the Big 12, and all the TEXAS teams (Baylor)

Even the committee chair has publicly anointed Iowa over OU.

a joke

Ferentz is a good coach and has his program at a good baseline. Some years they lose close ones against average teams, this year they won the close ones against average teams.

yes Iowa is winning all the close ones and mostly because Iowas stable of running backs is one HUGE difference this yr. they have 3 different types of guys that have been better than Mark Weisman. Canzeri is finally healthy and has been a decent mix of power and speed. Wadley is the burner, he can get to the edge and turn 5 yrds into 15, has iowa ever had one of those, mayeb freddy muscle russel. L Daniels is the protype RB he has more of that NFL type between the tackles power with good shifty's and some speed.
Iowas LBs have played about 10 times better this yr than last yr. That has allowed them to not get beat in coverage like they have in the past allowing our below avg pass rush be disrutpive enough to force errand throws to our DBs.

Now if we could get OTT back plus find adrian clayborn somewhere on the roster than IOWA would be more of an "eyeball test" team
