I have many friends that go there and nearby at Wayne.... I will find you... I will hug you...

But back to the thread:

Second favorite? University of Akron.
It won't be that hard to find me. I'm pretty much the only Iowa State fan on campus, though I'm trying to convert my friends. Now that I'm out here I'm also cheering for the Cleveland pro teams. I must be one the few neutral fans to choose to become a Cleveland fan.

I like watching Oregon play but its just because its fast paced offense, plus they have awesome sports apparel that you can buy.

Second favorite team to root for? Really any underdogs and teams that don't get much respect in the national spot light, but if I had to pick a team I'd probably go with Oregon

I am Irish and Catholic and grew up in an Irish Catholic neighborhood that loved ND. My dad hated them, though, because he says they went for a tie rather than a win back in the 60's, and so I grew up hating them too. I'd say I like Minnesota or South Dakota State. I think the Jackrabbits is a cool mascot (no, really).

I wasn't around in the 60's. The players they've had recently are awesome. Kyle Rudolph, Harrison Smith, Mant'i Teo. Also I have a friend who went there and really liked it.

My favorite teams from every conference
Big 10-Minnesota Golden Gophers
ACC-Duke or NC State
Pac 12-Probably Stanford because of the academics. Also like UCLA, UW and U of A, not sure why.
SEC-Georgia or South Carolina, maybe Tennessee
Big East-Right now, L'ville but when Navy Joins then Navy.

Hate list in order
1.Iowa
2.Nebraska
3,Missouri
4.Alabama
5.Ohio State
6.Michigan
7.Auburn

South Carolina Gamecocks!

Funny story: After one of the many horrific Chizik losses (I forget which one) I was at a Fudruckers and told myself I needed anther team to pay attention to because ISU was so bad at the time. So I let fate decide.

I walked up to one of those quarter machines with the the tiny plastic football helmets and out popped the Gamecocks Helmet. Loved 'em ever since.

Purple Kansas is my #2. The Wife went there and it's easy to root for them since the school reminds me of ISU.

Too risky -- what if a Hawkeye helmet popped out??

Once upon a time, I liked Texas A&M a bit, because I met some folks from there on Spring Break, and theur school was so much like ours.

That was a lo-o-o-o-ong time ago--and they spoiled it.

My second favorite team is ISU's second string. Somewhere along the line, the scout team comes into the picture.

After that, we might start talking other teams. Sorry, OP, never ND, which has always been a school of privilege, whose fans and alums (at least, from the football perspective) are simply spoiled brats. The whole "Independent" thing really puts me off.

Probably FSU. I was a pretty big admirer of Bobby Bowden who built them from nothing (they were, not too recently, and all female campus). I don't really follow them much anymore.

In conference pretty much the same as the rest. OSU and then Purple Kansas, but that mascot with the head that looks like a mouse head is pretty embarressing.

Hate Iowa and cheer for them to lose everything. Anyone growing up in E. IA knows what it's like. Never really minded Nebraska probably because of the distance from the Missouri River.

Generally I cheer for the team that is playing the team I don't like. Auburn as long as Chiz is there is cheered against. Notre Dame is cheered against - always on TV whether they deserved to be or not so I have to be against them.

I used to hate 'Bama back when Bear was coach. They played a pretty easy schedule in a lot of years and tried to back into some national championships. Since the Indy bowl, I've lost that hate and since they are Auburn's biggest rival I can pull for them now. Penn State had similar successes, but they were independent back then so not always able to schedule top-notch opposition every week.

Against BIG and SEC teams when playing out of conference.

In Baskies, hate UCLA and the Dukies (Dickie V inspired).

I feel similarly ND the students/alums are all pretty weird when you meet them in person. Sort of like they try to be arrogant but just come off insecure as they make it clear getting into ND is the greatest thing that will ever happen to them. I stopped for a burger and gas in South Bend and the people were weird there too.

THAT said... my opinion of them has improved with the direction they are going in their scheduling so the independent thing doesn't bother me as much. Cancelling the series on Purdue/Michigan/Mich St but not Stanford and USC and scheduling ACC schools is a move I respect, as is scheduling Northwestern instead of those other B1G schools. They should play private schools known for their academics as much as possible if they want to be independent. And now BYU is independent they aren't the only religious school with their own TV deal who doesn't want to be in a conference.

I don't actively cheer for any team besides ISU, but definitely root against Iowa (and the Big 10 in general). I will pretty much cheer for all Big 12 teams when they are facing out-of-conference competition, and I have coworkers that are graduates of Texas, Oklahoma, Okie State, Texas Tech, and Tulsa. I have no problem cheering for "thier" team if I am watching a game with them, as long as the opponent is not ISU.

I actually enjoy watching games with other people and cheering for their team, as I'm not as emotionally invested in the game as I am when watching ISU -- So much less stressful!!

Edit: I am Catholic but have a real distaste for Notre Dame football; however, I would really enjoy visting South Bend and the ND campus to see the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. I am actually fascinated with old church architecture and building history!

I was actually a Michigan fan before an ISU fan. It's really interesting, really how everything worked out. ISU started the rise as RR was blowing it at Michigan. I think the same thing would have happened but I ended up switching over to an ISU fan. I feel a much more emotional attachment to that program and that's why I don't get how people can go to ISU and be a Hawk fan. I'm still a Michigan fan and watch all their games when I can but I don't sacrifice anything ISU for Michigan. I also root for WVU, Oregon, South Carolina, and Clemson. I figure you have to have a team in every conference. Don't own any gear for any of them either.
