Not much going on in North Central Iowa at this point. Was a Thunderstorm warning for Algona area.

Drove home from Northwood tonight and got an impressive light show and some heavier rain, but certainly nothing like what is going on down to the south.

The no injury news is good. My wife's parents were out shopping and didn't even know about it yet, so they haven't heard from family yet. They do have three family members there, although I misremembered slightly (it's my wife's great-aunt, my FIL's cousin, and her husband).

Thanks for the info. Looks like some new warnings have been issued for that area. Hopefully the stuff that was over by Sioux City/Mapleton/Denison dies off before it reaches North Central Iowa.

Now Tornado warning for Kossuth/Hancock/Winnebago counties.

KIMT wind shear map was showing rotation near Algona and a spot south of Garner.

Because their partner station is KETV out of Omaha. Mapleton & Early are not really part of their coverage area. KTIV in Sioux City covers that area.

that makes it not newsworthy? i thought the same thing - this is news for the entire state.

A new tornado warning for Winnebago/Cerro Gordo/Hancock counties.

Both warnings are from radar, not ground reports. Guess I won't go to bed just yet.

Brother just went through Early to check on family. You can only get into town to check on someone. Most of downtown which is only two blocks have significant damage. Nemaha has a lot of damage. My dad's hog barns and uncle's barns east of Nemaha are gone. Varina called in anyone from Fonda that is able to get up there to check on people cause they got hit directly too.

1 person is missing between Fonda and Newell. Someone went out to check on their buildings on their 4 wheeler, 4 wheeler has been recovered can't find the person.

Heard from family. Everyone's ok, but my FIL's cousin and her husband's house has significant damage -- front porch damaged and/or gone, multiple windows blown out, and they haven't even checked the upstairs / roof yet.

It's not very often you have a large tornado outbreak still going on well after the sun has gone down. Definitely a bad situation. Makes you wonder what things will be like tomorrow for us in central Iowa.

I think Des Moines should be OK; warm front is along IA/MN border and moving north.

MNCYWX (who can't post now because he is trapped in my TV, I can see him) is still calling for North Central and NE Iowa to keep an eye to the sky tomorrow.

He also just passed along: spotter confirmed tornado 16 miles SW of Algona, moving NE at 45 mph.
