Andre Woolridge.. He carried their basketball team after they lost a couple of starters to injury. Dude was a warrior. Plus he was classy. When ISU beat them in Carver, he didn't make any excuses and say we were better or anything (A. White) but instead just tipped his hat to ISU.

Hawkeye Pierce beats out Hawkeye from the Leatherstocking Tales, who was a bit of a racist.

Of those at AIB-Iowa City, Dr. Tom Davis and Dr. James Van Allen.

Since I mostly just named doctors before, I'll throw in Downtown Freddie Brown. I'm probably the only one old enough to remember him.

Because I worked at the same company and got to know him a little bit, I will say Lew Montgomery. Great guy.

Alex Karras. You gotta like a guy that can knock down a horse with one punch.

Plus he took them to 1st Rose Bowl and fought all the time with Evashevski (head Coach) and did some MNF gigs

I am actually a big fan of Hayden Fry now. Maybe I am over-compensating for the vitriol I hurled at him in previous decades.
I know we all like to parrot the "ANF" versus the "Actually Helping Farmers" gimic.....however, what I see coming out of Iowa State is helping corporate farmers and research funding streams. Helping Family Farmers is still a challenge and Hayden did what he did....he didn't have to. He could have been a boring, non-invasive, football-only-focused, gum-chewwing salary collector. But he spear-headed the "ANF" logo effort and you have to salute him and pay respects. Good man.

Coach Mac (gave us our greatest season in program history) and Steve Alford (all time great college basketball player and very very under appreciated head coach)

IF his intent was to actually support American farmers than yes I'd agree.

I wasn't alive during this time period but a lot of people believe that this was mostly done in attempt to spite Iowa State University (and it was certainly effective at doing that).

I also remember after the 2005 Iowa game Iowa was still ranked ahead of ISU in the polls (I think it was one spot, but still). Greenway said something along the lines of "there's no way that should be. They kicked our butts."

Didn't he also compare the environment at Jack Trice in 2005 to Michigan/Ohio State?

Where they love the governor
I'll also throw out Brig Tubbs. Friend of the family, made sure to come by and pay respects at Grandma's funeral. Also he and his wife do a good job of making my family look short (at 6'-2", tied with my sister for "short stuff").

Is increasing yield really helping family farmers? Do you know what you are talking about? This isn't shallow wonk economics....this is about FAMILY farmers...stewards of the land and folks raising families.....not absentee land owners and getting another quarter pound of hog out of the same amount of feed, antibiotics, and energy in the corporate confinement. Don't be Hating....I just think Hayden--despite being our arch enemy for all those years....deserves respect and I think he respected the agricultural communities. America needs farmers bro.
