Not surprised you question this...
Getting Nurse would be one of the few positives I've heard regarding MBB in awhile. He's been a lot of places in this world and coached kids with a lot of different backgrounds. And it is a good thing he's from Iowa. I'll choose the Iowa guy over out-of-state guy with same credentials 10 times out of 10.
As I said previously, my preference would be someone that is bringing more of an outside perspective to the gig than this guy probably can...someone with a pedigree of CBB playing and coaching at a power conference school that has had success at both.
I think this is correct. We are not in a position to pick and choose whoever we want. This will not be possible with the uncertainty of Gmac's future. Even if an asst. coach from a comparable school/conference were interested and liked Gmac, the lame-duck status here would cool that interest in a hurry.
The assistant who ultimately joins the staff will do so because of a large step-up from his current salary and working conditions, even if it lasts just one year.
That certainly applies to Nurse.
If he wants to coach in collge, this is his chance to get started. He has developed players for the NBA a plus. He also is suppose to be a shooting expert, something this team needs. Good X and Os coach and has coached up tempo teams, something this team needs work on. Add the player relations part and it seems like a good fit, the right fit.
Nice analysis, but do we really want two UNI coaches on the bench?

I know nothing of Nurse's coaching pedigree but this type of hire concerns me.
He is a state of Iowa guy and a UNI guy just like McDermott.
It would seem to me that we need to bring in some fresh outside perspectives...not someone with a similar background.
Just my opinion.
Did Nurse say anything in the Matt and Miller interview? I missed it.
He didn't admit anything, but he didn't deny anything. He basically said he's going to review his options at the end of the season, which could be very soon. I think it's going to happen.
Did I hear correctly during the interview that Nurse and Gmac played together for 3 years at UNI? If I have that correct, Nurse said Gmac's nickname was "blackhole" because whenever they threw the ball into him, they knew it wasn't coming back out!
True but they can't leave unless they are here in the first place.
Could someone please tell me why Nick Nurse will be able to come in and take over. GMAC is still the head coach, still his style of play. He will coach one position and take his orders from GMAC. He can not recruit. You got to be able to see the players and if you do not know the coaches of the players it won't happen. I just do not see where this helps ISU. What players has GMAC recruited to be in the top of the BIG 12.
