He justified it because Matt and him are best buddies. That's also why you like Jon, because he would always talk about Iowa State as a favor to Matt.

We are so much better off for having Matt not be a part of this program. He did much more harm then good.

No I actually like him because he does a really good job covering all 300+ D1 teams and I enjoy his positivism he has. Too much negativity anymore, so its refreshing for me.

There are a lot of sour grapes in this thread. I don't like how the Darien Williams thing went down, but you can't fault Matt for taking off for his dream job in the area that he grew up, especially when his boss was going to be taking off. I don't really see the point of following him anymore that he isn't here, just to point out that the new school isn't instantly successful.

I was a little sore with Matt at the time, but I'm guessing he knew Fred had interviewed with all the NBA teams and was headed out the door, so I'm not as mad now.

A little bit about taking Williams, but that happens a lot. It's how we got our stud RB :twitcy:

So Fred kept a guy on staff that was harming the program? That seems like a bad idea. I thought Fred was pretty smart. I'll have to re-think this.

I guess Jon Rothstein (who I usually like) was justifying the bad loss because St. Johns had a key player missing....um your reserves at a D1 school should beat a D2 school.

link?

Anyone who thinks Matt A didn't help this program is just straight ignorant. Period. He was a critical piece of where we are at today.

I like all of the white knights. If someone wants to say they dislike Matt, who gives a ****? He has nothing to do with our program anymore. Let them hate on him. It will effect ISU, St. John's and Matt A. exactly zero percent.

oh, I don't fault the guy at all for leaving. He knew Hoiberg was gone and he knew that he likely wouldn't have a job on the new staff. I have a problem with him poaching a committed recruit on the way out. ISU gave him a P5 assistant job with very little experience. I know some assistants poach recruits, but TJ didn't. And I don't have to wish someone well that did.

I also also do not think he should get primary credit for many of the transfers. Hoiberg did the selling there. Matty did spend a lot of time babysitting Royce White, so that was valuable.

Honestly, I'm more annoyed with Williams than I am with Matt A. I can't begrudge a guy for taking a job closer to home, but Williams signing with ISU was a perfect situation for everyone. At least he could have given ISU's new coach a chance to talk to him before bailing.

Agree. Taking Williams along is the only part that I wish MA would have done differently.

What difference does it make? Either Williams goes with MA to SJU or we release him and he goes somewhere else.

At least at SJU it's not likely we'll have to deal with him competitively.

The crazy thing is they actually have quite a bit of talent this year but Mullin can't coach
