I cannot be the only one who is tired of all these Cyclone fans constantly blaming the officiating after each game. It is so annoying to me, it makes us seem like Hawk fans. Its a bad habit and it needs to stop. The last few times ive left Hilton ive overheard it.

Oh for god's sake. That's all fan bases. I find it annoying that the same fans that get mad about complaining about the refs have no problems complaining/bashing Iowa State players.

Very rarely do I say that the refs cost us a game. But I like to discuss officiating and you better believe that I get mad about it. That's part of the fun of sports.

I'm not a fan so I can be 100% impartial about Iowa State's teams. I don't know why we have to act like we are.

I agree, but why not make them full-time, pay them more, and make the whole thing more transparent? It's not like there's a lack of $$ in big-time college athletics?

Exactly. I've been advocating for that. Make them full time. Limit them to 2-3 games per week with a day off in between and travel that makes sense. Don't allow freaking athletic directors to officiate any game (Hartzel still just kills me).

The refs should be hammered mercilessly in Hilton, every call should be booed. Right or wrong any call against isu is the wrong call. Hilton has to be intimidating for refs, so in the last 5 minutes of a game we get calls. It's called home court advantage, KU does it, so should we. They need to be afraid to make a call against ISU in Hilton. That's just the way it has to be.

I thought that the Hogue intentional was a bad call, it should have just been a blocking foul. But, as games a KU go, it was generally pretty fair.

I think you will find a lot less complaining about officiating the day they start becoming accountable for their poor calls. Every employee in American has to answer for their errors to the person they affected by their errors. Officials run out of the building and on to their next victim. Every game officials should have to sit and answer questions about their calls to the local media of each team. Then there would be less complaining.

I am sympathetic to your premise, but this is a LOL patently untrue statement. Every employee in America DOES NOT ANSWER to the person affected by their errors. NOT EVEN CLOSE. :)

The idea of starting a complaint against complainers, probably wasn't a good idea. Complainers are naturally adept at complaining and answering complaints. The OP however doesn't like complaining and therefore gets much less practice at it, contrary to those who complain about refs and many other things. Next time, start a thread praising all refs, they have such a hard dirty job to do. Perhaps your thread praising the refs will counter-balance some of the complaints and give the refs something to feel good about. Then out of pure gratitude, they will give us good calls, and love us as they would their own children. Maybe they will even begin to talk nicely to Fred Hoiberg, just like they talk and joke with Bill, the one and only Self.

This is dumb.

The call at the end of last year's game here against KU was exceptionally bad, perhaps the worst I've ever seen. But really, other than that, it's hard to think of bad calls that have cost us games.

I'm not really sure if those who are complaining about the refs believe they are biased against ISU or if they are just generally bad. If they're saying they're biased against ISU, that sounds pretty paranoid and they should supply a reason as to why the refs would hate ISU more than other teams.

It's possible the refs are calling certain parts of the game poorly, just as a general rule, both for and against ISU. I certainly thought this way about MLB umpires in the 1990s, that they weren't biased, just bad. The way they called the strike zone was awful. Umpires called pitches strikes that were clearly balls, and there was great variation from one umpire's strike zone to another's. I think MLB started cracking down on them, and providing them with the tools to improve their performance, and now they are much better.
