i can see why anderson wants to return "home" but man, he's bailing on coaching the two sons of one of his best friends, nevermind a senior like kim english. hope the $$$$$ are worth it.

I think Anderson is a really good coach. Maybe not worth what he's about to get, but very good. I see no reason why, under Anderson, they couldn't make a Final Four run if they hit the right combination of athletes and experience, just like Richardson did at Arkansas.

MU has not been unbeatable by any means, but it's a style that is hard to prepare for.

I'd say I'm most excited about the potential of a new staff there, because even if they're good, there's almost always a lag as the team adjusts, and every little bit helps in getting our program turned around.

I don't see any reason to get too excited over this. Anderson has done a good job at Miz, but he isn't a great coach. Miz has the resources as the only major-conference school in the state to be a lot better than they have been. They can do a lot better than Mike Anderson. That said, they could do a lot worse as well.

I just don't think it's anything to get too worked up about right now. Same with BCG at Tech, and whoever OU hires (Buzz Williams?). Now our coach will be ahead of 1/3 of the league in building his program, and Drew and Ford may not last more than another year or two at BU and oSu. We're in a very good position right now.

"our coach will be ahead of 1/3 of league"....I agree with that assessment, and I think that Freddie Ball is gonna just keep getting better and better.

Go Freddie Ball...beat mizzou...ttech...ku and all the rest of 'em !!!

Yes! They have been solid under this guy... and Missoui has been stacked the last couple of years....which has been disgusting. This will be huge to have him leave and them in shambles. Hoiberg needs to get after them, Tech and OU now!

Does he have to wear the pig on his head?
That's what the "$.2 mill" is for.

The flip side of the coin is that Missou will have enough talent on hand to attract a coach who is looking for a well stocked roster.

I have a feeling cuonzo Martin as Missouri state will get a look

Probably. He is a good coach that is from the St. Louis area, spent 8 years as an assistant under Gene Keady and Matt Painter, Missouri State has improved each year under him, the Keady coaching tree has produced Bruce Weber, Steve Lavin, Kevin Stallings, and Matt Painter, he is still fairly young, no worries about losing him to his alma mater as Purdue is set for a long time with Painter, and personally I like the way his teams play in the few games I've seen.

What about Mizzou going for a younger, unproven coach, such as the coaches at Richmond and VCU? Leading two Cinderella's into the Sweet 16 is going to grant these coaches a lot of attention during coaching searches.
NCAA tournament: VCU Rams, Richmond Spiders represent city of Richmond, Va., in Sweet 16 - ESPN

Also, a coach like Brad Stevens isn't going to stick around at Butler forever.

Why not, he's got it made there, a final four appearance, another sweet 16, coaching at a school where he can consistently make the NCAA tourney, able to play and compete with the big boys, but without the headaches of the big boys. A lot of these mid major coaches find out the grass is not always greener on the other side (McDermott, Keno).

if this is indeed true, then Missouri is likely the top job opening this spring. They have a loaded team coming back, not a rebuilding job like a OU or TT or a school going on probation like Tennessee.

I think Anderson is a good coach, over the last three years only Kansas and A&M have won more games. I have been surprised he hasn't done better landing top tier talent coming out of the state or being close to Texas to dip into that area. His top two recruits have been Demare Carroll, his nephew and Phil Pressey, his godson.

It galls mizzou fans seeing Brad Beal leaving for Florida or Ben McElmore going to KU or BJ Young to AK. Anderson did seem to have the lead on Otto Porter, but he has also been talking about visiting KU now.

Even at butler, he's only a few down years away from the axe. The natives *always* get restless.

At a bigger name school he can get a contract that will pay much more, and have guaranteed money in the contract so that even if it doesnt work out, he still makes a ******** more money. And he can always go back down to the 'less headaches' mid-majors.

A lot of people in KC have said they are OK with Anderson leaving because they don't believe he can get them any higher then what they are at now. Their only worry is he will take the younger Pressey with him.

Be careful what you wish for. I think we had the same problem with McCarney where we thought we couldn't get any higher than we were... then we took a few steps backwards.
