ya I mean, why not come back for 8 games this year when you could play 30 next year. Right?

Because this tournament is wide open and with Naz we could have a legit shot at a deep run. Maybe Naz would like to go out with Georges and some of the other guys, rather than return to be Matt's possible backup.

Hmmmm ok, ya, so he would be Matt Thomas back up next year. Its all so clear now.

Have you ever watched a basketball game ever? Just curious.

I've watched enough to know that a double hip surgery doesn't always end well and he may never be the same

Not sure any of us can get inside his head, and really figure out what he's thinking.

Personally, I think he'd love to help out his teammates, and he understands the ceiling if he came back, but it's also a sizeable risk. What if it screws up the rotation and roles that the team is used to, or what if he comes back and can't make shots, and then is just a burden.

Or selfishly, what if he came back, and they still lose in the first round of the tournament. Is it really worth throwing a whole season away for that?

Go rewatch our McDermott years then tell me again that this season where we have been top 15 the entire year may be remembered as biggest train wreck ever

If we get knocked out in the first round it is a trainwreck (I don't think this will happen). The McDermott years the train never got out of the station.

Yep, I agree the future is always unknown and all of us are purely speculating.

Anything could happen between now and next year too. There is risk and potential reward which ever way he goes.

Naz is not coming back this season. I spoke to him again Tuesday night and asked him how hard it is for him to sit and watch at the end of tight games. He said it is brutal, especially when he knows he could make a difference. But than said "I do get to come back for one more year!" with a huge smile. I told him "if you can get Monte to come back, you, Matt, and him will make up the best back court in the country. He put his hand out to shake and said "Trust me, I am working on that"...

You weren't paying close enough attention then. There was a bleeping trainwreck every single game, multiple times per game. It happened when Brian ******* Peterson picked up his dribble along the sideline just across half court all the ******* time. Still don't understand how he is a coach. He failed at b-ball 101 stuff

That top 10 preseason ranking included Naz Long.

You gotta figure in the 4-5 games we lost where we've had a last shot to win Naz would have at least gotten us a couple. Not to mention the depth and defense he would have have added if healthy.

With the onslaught of likes on these posts, obviously I didn't clearly state what I meant.

For starters, by trainwreck I don't mean a failure of a season. So I'm not comparing it to times when we knew we were gonna suck, unranked, just fell flat, or didn't make the tournament (or McDermott).

I think it's fairly obvious that there has been a lot of off the court occurrences and conversations had about this team, moreso than other years. The season begins really where the last one ends. Everyone had huge expectation for this season, every analyst calling us a potential final four team easy. Then we have a legendary beloved by the players coach leave late in the off season leaving little room for recruiting. We get a new coach in and speculation starts if he can control this senior heavy team who is used to playing their way and pretty freely, or if they will accept a new coach. It starts out with them doing this until it's proven it's not working. He then tries to take the reigns back, which he did very successfully it seems. Then throughout the season there's rumblings of issues between teammates or with coaches, the McKay all over the place starting with the Italy trip, and 3 different player meetings. Plus some rumblings of people out to get theirs rather than playing team ball and finding the open guy.

All I'm saying is before Fred left everything and everyone seemed 100% great and it was Final Four or bust. You can't lie that off the court it's been a bit of a bumpy road. All I was commenting on is that it could end with two extremes (which I gave), or somewhere in middle. Sorry I didn't add an option c in there for all of you. I'm optimistic as can be about this team, just saying what my worst fear was as a Clone fan.

No it's not a bad season by any means, but if a few things went differently (not just scores, talking buy-in, defensive fundamentals, team work) we could EASILY be in cruise control for a regular season Big 12 title. We haven't had a lot of chances to do that lately and we screwed it up this year.

I think the season will end up somewhere in the middle, but I could also see those two extremes, the team imploding (hopefully not), or them banding together, buying in, and giving us one of the greatest seasons to ever remember.

I think we will peak at the right time and still make something magical happen.

Yeah, I'm not saying this isn't one of the better teams in ISU history even if we finish 3-2 and don't win any tournament games.

But a trainwreck goes like this... You start with a train. A big, awesome, expensive, fancy train. And then you wreck it. Super disappointing. That would be a trainwreck.

Our basketball team started off like a train at the station. And in the process of the season (whether or not it was anyone's fault, like losing Naz) we end up finishing in the bottom half of the Big 12, and don't win any tournament games. That's the same as a trainwreck. You started off with something you were so excited about, and then were left with disappointment.

I'm not labeling this season as anything yet, and that's just a what-if scenario. I think the season won't end up a trainwreck.

This team has more wake-up calls than Gateway Center Holiday Inn after a Tri Delt graduate bachelorette partye

This may be your greatest post ever.

I know it's been said, but I think the Baylor game was the wake up call they needed. They must be looking at the name on the jersey.

Pretty much what I was thinking, BUT I will say Naz has looked pretty consumed on the sidelines the last few games.

Naz coming back. Train wrecks galore. Dream land. The players had a simple team meeting and the fans in here need a "therapist".
