My motivation to stop drinking Diet Mt Dew was reading somewhere that it contains a substance that is used in flame retardants. I also realized that instead of trying to eat more foods that were antioxidants for my health, I needed to stop eating the oxidants... sugar. I replaced it with water, tea and juice with apple cider vinegar. Joints and gut feel so much better.

I stopped drinking soda in 8th grade outside of an occasional mixed drink.

Try Mio in your water if you need flavor. If you need caffeine I think they have some with that as well.

I don't have a great option if you crave the carbonation, though I enjoyed the non-carbonated version of this in high school.

I was drinking upwards of 6 to 8 Dr. Peppers a day about 1 1/2 ago and decided enough was enough. I dropped the soda cold turkey and went to water. That combined with not eating fast food twice a day has helped me drop over 120 pounds. 41 feels better than when I was 25.

There's nothing wrong with moderate consumption.
The last time I had a Mountain Dew I couldn't fathom how I used to be able to drink 3-4 each day. Way too sweet.

Btw when I quit, I immedialty dropped 20 pounds which made me want to work out. It basically changed my life. I weigh about 200 pounds now and I’m pretty well built for an older guy.

I transitioned to mostly only drinking pop in a mixed drink, usually BV Pepsi. Will have one with a combo meal but don't crave it anymore. Used to drink 3-4 pops a day for a few years but I got life insurance when my first was on the way and my blood pressure wasn't high but high enough that it cost me quite a bit more money. If you don't have pop in the house it won't be as tempting. I quit drinking it then pretty much cold turkey and also watch sodium intake, got a new policy a couple years after with my perfect blood pressure and premium dropped from $38 to $23.50.

Quit a long time ago. Just drink coffee and water; its tough at first, but you'll be happy you quit.

I was living in KC about 20 years ago and managed to quit for good. Since Coke was my primary source of caffeine, I even kicked that habit.

Somewhere along the line after moving back to DM, I hopped back on the wagon and can for days or weeks and then the sugar craving kills me, I cave, and have a Coke or Sprite. You know I'm dragon-a$$ tired when you see me with a Coke or coffee in the morning. My wife and I enable each other, so that doesn't help much either!

Good luck - keep us posted.

They say when you want to lose weight the first thing you should eliminate are the calories you drink. Your story is proof that philosophy is correct.

That's awesome work!

I'm on the same effort now. Just hit 40 down over the last 4 months. Still got a good amount of work to do but feel so much better already and have a good deal more energy.

This is me once I switched to diet sodas.

Regular sodas taste too syrupy now. Ive cut back on them recently along with the other things I've been doing to lose weight, but I need some caffeine.

I do diet 99% but once in a while a regular pop just tastes fantastic. Just a treat to have a "real" coke once in a while.

Yeah, focusing on things that keep you feeling full longer helps a lot, and sugary drinks are about at the bottom of that list.

Not exactly sure.

Lost nothing when I quit drinking pop. It was diet pop so calories weren’t there but was told I should still drop 10-20 pounds.

I quit drinking regular pop when I was 16. I still drink diet pop, but not anywhere near as much. It's just a way to get caffeine when coffee either doesn't sound good or isn't an option.
