KU has beaten WV and Houston in their houses. I hate KU as much as anyone, but you have to give them some props for beating both of those teams…. they are both better than Iowa.

No, they're not. Their offenses might be, but doubtful against Iowa's D.

Don't get me wrong, KU winning 2 of those 3 games surprised the hell out of me. But it's not "they're great" indication. It's "they're finally not an instant W on the record" indication.

The only poll that matters is the playoff poll, and there’s a reason it doesn’t come out until week 8.

I always enjoy watching the AP voters adjust their rankings after the first playoff poll comes out. It's become quite the tradition.

I feel like we'd be ranked right now if the iowa score was what it should have been. That game should have been 24-10 or 21-10. As it is, we just have to win Saturday to get the voters respect.

I dislike Texas as much as anyone. But to me they should be ranked higher than Baylor. Same record, but a loss to Alabama was more impressive

Alabama played absolutely awful in that game. 9 times out of 10 that game isn't even close. That was the most undisciplined team I've seen at Bama since Saban has been there. It's easy to get caught up in the Texas is back chatter but we see this movie about every year.

We have to win Saturday to get MY respect. If I was a voter, I wouldn't rank us. Not because I don't think we might be worthy...I just have no idea.

We're coming from nowhere I'd doubt that would have been that attention grabbing.

LMAO no way Gameday goes to Lawrence for the Iowa State game.
There was uproar they didn’t go this week and next week KU could be ranked (and we could be too). Not saying I think it’d happen but their fans are starting a movement on Twitter to come next weekend if they beat Duke.

Im also interested in how Texas responds morale-wise. Last year, I saw them play well enough to lead Rattler’s Oklahoma team and then blow it once Caleb Williams came in. I feel like that game wrecked their whole season because they lack character. I hope Texas takes another early loss this year because we dont want them getting any momentum

Have you seen the slate of games for next week? They will be at one of these locations.

NC State @ Clemson
Bama at Arkansas
Kentucky @ Ole Miss

Mostly because they have a lot f skin in the game with the SEC and Clemson...

Honestly, I don't want them to go to Lawrence for that game, it will just be a three hour joke about how horrible the two programs are.
Yeah I agree with that. And they’d probably do an hour segment talking about which head coach of the two teams would be the next Nebraska coach.

Testifying
Yeah, WV and Houston are good wins if they turn out to be what people expected them to be. I don't think they will.
I said earlier in another thread I anticipate Graham Harrell to be given the reigns at WV at the end of the year.

This is why I am still a proponent of the first poll coming out later in the season. It is easy to rack up top 25 wins when a good part of your conference schedule is given a seat at the table without earning it. Then wins against poor but ranked teams prop up teams in the conference. Yes, the rankings don't matter, but they are hyped all season long and it props up teams and conferences in the consciousness of the entire country.

There are currently 31 undefeated teams in the country. Not all of those teams are top 25 worthy but are all 9 teams with a loss on their record appearing in the top 25 - some as high as the low teens - better than all of those undefeated teams that didn't get in the poll (and some didn't even get a vote)?

I guess I wouldn't mind the preseason poll so much if the voters would throw away their previous ballot and last week's poll results each week and would sit down and rank the resumes of each team every week. The problem is that they don't rank teams but rather move teams based on wins and losses that week. So in an early poll a team that stinks but was ranked in the top 10 is more likely to be voted 5-10 spots lower rather than being dropped from the poll. And if they then squeak out wins they continue to reside in the poll despite teams that were unranked racking up solid wins each week behind them. The problem with the polls is laziness and bias.

I agree. To be frank, I'd rather there not be polls altogether outside of the BCS rankings (which is the only thing that matters).

Sadly, due to the dearth of (quality) interconference games, its hard to subjectively rate conferences. Do away with the FCS games and mandate 3-4 power 5 interconference games with true home/away games (no neutral site BS). By the end of the year people will have a better idea as to what/who the better conferences are. Not going to happen though.

Probably this. Hard to be ranked when you can only muster 10 points against an Iowa team that struggles to score (regardless of where it is).

I also think it becomes harder to vote for teams when you have a unit (STs) that stinks while (simultaneously) not having a unit that blows people away. Right now, due to the quality of the opponents (our defense), that's exactly what we have. Couple that with low preseason expectations and you have to do something to "win" the voters over. We haven't done that yet.
