Yes, beer snob, music snob, TV series snob...... The list goes on and on.....
My beer snobbishness is more toward just not drink the typical light beers, Coors, Miller, and Bud could all fall off the face of the earth and I would careless...... When offered I will normally say no, unless out for quantity, but most of the time I will in that mode too.....
Obviously not a grammar snob.
I will drive 40 miles to another town because that town has stores that offer a significantly larger number of beers for sale.
Do you beer drinkers enjoy the taste of it? Or just drink it to get smashed? I dont understand because it does neither of the two. Im not trying to cause a rant, i just dont get it.
I'd say I'm a beer nerd, not a beer snob. As others have said, the difference is a beer nerd tells you what they like to drink, a beer snob tells you what you ought to drink.
With that out of the way, I will say that one of my pet peeves is when someone says they like dark beer. What does that mean? Dark is not a flavor. Dark is not an indicator or ABV or IBU. I've had some low ABV but really dark bland lagers and I've had some lighter colored, robust high ABV ales.
I think true beer nerdery is appreciation of the craft and ingenuity displayed by the brewer (regardless of who owns them). Having gotten plugged into the brewing scene here in the Twin Cities, getting to know some of the brewers, and being fortunate enough to have a beer-related job, I see beer drinkers of all stripes. Drink what you like.
I am a beer snob. Also, a wine snob and a coffee snob.
I will however drink a PBR or 6 in the right setting (beer of choice for softball). It's much better than a white zin or cheap coffee.
