Our group of 6 hasn't fully decided yet and it may depend on what capacity ends up being. But the 6 of us will likely opt out.

Is there an opt-out deadline?

It depends on your sources for each, and how many "hops" each has.

Standard radio will be ahead of any video.
If the radio station has their FCC delay activated, you'll probably be close to matching up with OTA/cable. Satellite video may be a little further behind.
Listening via app or online stream will put you behind OTA/cable/satellite, but could get you in line if you're streaming the video also.

As far as video is concerned, that delay can vary widely by network in addition to your viewing method. There's the FCC delay, number of satellites involved, whether the production is remote or on-site, etc.

Example: For some basketball games on ESPN networks, the delay can be up to 15-18 seconds once all of the above is factored in. Nothing like seeing live stats update with a basket before the ball is even across half-court on the screen.

I've found the TuneIn Radio app and a DVR give me enough control to get it fairly close. TuneIn is my go to when leaving the stands after the game - don't have to carry a radio and don't miss the post-game.

Our group of 7 opted out. We were leaning that way and then no tailgating sealed it.
I can see this as a big factor of why people would opt out. 95% of people don’t go up to Ames on game days for just the game. They know it’s an all day or half day affair with the tailgating. Could definitely see people within an hour drive make it, but I can’t see many people driving down from places like Minnesota for just the game, unless they’re that dedicated.

Warning Warning - potential thread derailment approaching :mccaffery:

I have tried this but the radio and TV are not in sync.
It takes a while, but if you have TIVO you can pause, restart until it's synced. Easier with FB than with basketball because the play is so much slower that a few seconds doesn't make a lot of difference. :)

Where they love the governor
Has anyone seen an outdoor venue that has had less fans in the stand have a bad outcome. I know there have been few instances. NASCAR has had a couple. I haven’t seen an outbreak related to such an event yet. Just wondering if that is what the AD is looking at. I think 50% capacity is unlikely.

I found this article from the beginning of the month regarding NASCAR.

Keep in mind that they're letting in 20,000 people to a place that has a capacity of 162,000.

Just opted out for the season. First time in 16 years I won't make it to any games. :(

We took my son to a few games last season as a baby. He's almost 2 now and I was really looking forward to games with him this year.

Fingers crossed the world is back to normal in 2021.

This past Friday we opted to carry over our 4 including our parking pass. Others in our regular tailgate crew had already done the same thing.
I didn’t ask about the Cyclone Club donation, because basketball season is still such an unknown. There will be time for that later.
We “plan” to tailgate in either the driveway or back yard and watch inside. Sucks not to be in the parking lot, but I know I won’t forget anything at home this year.

From the sounds of this thread it will be around 10% as it appears 4 out of every 5 posts is/are opting out. :-(

And this is on a fan site with some of the most committed fans. Sounds more and more like we may reach the 25% and still be able to use our season tickets for more than the 3 games as stated in the original split-season option.

We have four seats and a hillside and plan to be there for as many games as we're allowed. Although I think we'll have to find a replacement for the hillside ticket on the secondary market, as it's my understanding those won't be offered.

If fans are allowed, I wonder if they could relax the restriction on artificial noise makers? Serious question. I'm 99% sure those violate stadium rules. Assuming it's not a conference/NCAA rule, why not allow air horns and vuvuzelas to crank up the noise?

What is your source for there not being tickets available on the secondary market?

If they allow fans at all, they may be able to go with the 50% plan where you get the full slate of tickets and they assign seats throughout the stadium based on priority points. With all the opt outs, then the stadium is actually only 25% (or less) full.

From the Quad Cities, will be at every game that I can. Love to tailgate, but love the game more.

Starting to sound like they may back off of the 50% per CW.
