Biggest thing for me is someone who has been a head coach before, who has demonstrated that he can build and promote a program, connect with recruits, manage adversity, and make adjustments. The learning on the job thing sucks when you're already at the bottom of the totem pole.

And I would love to see someone put an emphasis on offense, ideally something that would make us unique in the Big 12. I've seen too many years of inept offense compounding a struggling defense.

A coach that can pull great recruits out of thin air. Let's face it, with threads like this he will not inherit any recruits that read Cyclone Fanatic. I cannot understand why some fans are so bent on dumping on their favorite football program.

it's not your fault.

The biggest attribute is having a relationship with the Texas High School Football Coaches similar to what Art Briles has with those coaches...

I see no way to compete with the Texas Schools in the Big 12 without getting similar talent from the state of Texas..

Meanwhile, Jamie Pollard is thinking:

Gotta have a guy that any two attributes in addition to attribute number 1, which is mandatory

1. Ultra low cost
2. Man of faith
3. Family man
4. Iowan
5. Good football coach

lol if you think #5 is even on his list of requirements.

I want a young guy.
I want him to really try to sell Iowa State to recruits.
I want him to run an offense like KSU and slow everything down.
I want them to recruit JUCO.
I want him to get us new uniforms.

i don't mind if he uses Iowa State as a stepping stone, I just want him to put us in the right track and give us the tools to be a bowl team.

i know basketball is different but hoiberg brought us from nobodies to in the national conversation in 5 years. if he can do it why can't we do it in football? blah blah the weather, blah blah, up north, but honestly - doesn't winning itself create a cycle of good recruits, etc.?

Threads like these are good, they show that the fans still care. It would be scary if we didn't have these types of threads after the last 3 years and the descent of our program under CPR. If JP hangs on to CPR for another year or two, these threads will go away because fans will stop caring. Football season will just be "that thing we have to get through before basketball season."

This. The opposite of love isn't hate. The opposite of love is apathy. As long as there are people still coming on here ranting it means they still care. But when they quit ranting it's because the fire is gone and nobody gives a **** anymore.

although we need good recruits, I just don't see us getting quality players until we do better then 2 wins/season.

This would be my list. One thing I'd add would be a player developer. Chiz got some good recruits in but didn't do that much with the talent. It's been really glaring under the Rhoads era.

Up and comer from a school that is a proven offensive weapon. Needs to have high level recruiting experience, and be able to hire people who can recruit well. Need someone who coaches like CPR did in his first 3 years.

To be fair, they are dumping all over the current coaching staff not the program. To act like fans of a team with no history, tradition or future prospects of either that still show up 60k strong to games is some kind of a fair weather fanbase is insane. If fan support and loyalty was all it took to recruit good football players, ISU would be a powerhouse. Besides, you think ISU is the only school with a message board? The powerhouse programs have a much uglier internet presence than ISU.

Agreed. The ones dumping on the football program are the ones okay with the status quo.

Who dumped on who first? The program has continually sucked balls. The fanbase has supported this piece of crap program to new heights fiscally yet it continues to be putrid in spite of it.

If this was a relationship it would be described as abusive and the program would be locked away for domestic violence.

You have the benefit of receiving back from your program. If you constantly gave to someone and in returned they ****** down your back for your trouble you would get bitter too. I recall the Ron Prince years and there were a many angry & bitter wildcat fans. So don't act all high and mighty here when you stand in a position of privilege.
