Without Wade there's little chance K-State can even beat Ku once much less challenge for the B12 title. Damn shame.

Its a damn shame that a 10-8 Big 12 team from a year ago can infuse no new talent and instantly set expectations at Big 12 championship because they beat a fringe top 25 team in the NCAA tournament.

I never understood the pre-season hype they were getting. They beat a decent Kentucky team but other then that they had a cake walk to the Elite 8 last year.

A little like this board after 2015-16.

Man, the new NCAA rankings formula puts very little weight into SOS. Our current RPI is 75... I will be curious to see how the new system handles mid majors vs P5 at large bids.

If it doesn't match up with who and what seedings they want in the tourney they will just tweek it some more.

Looking at these rating this early is kind of like looking at spring training and determining, yup, my teams going to the World Series!

Yeah I get it, we are sitting in a great spot. However, I can't say I agree with how the new ranking system is working though. It appears to put way to much weight into pure wins and losses and not enough weight into who you actually beat or lost too. I don't get why the NCAA completely went away from RPI because it was working.

The RPI definitely has it's flaws. Probably the biggest to me is games like Alabama St. (#288) and Southern (#377) are RPI killers. Replace those two games with two more teams like Texas Southern (#125) and Nebraska-Omaha (#175) and your RPI suddenly looks much better. But does that really tell you which top 50 team is better?

The NET might have gone too far in the other direction but there's signs it's improving as the season progresses with more data and may be reasonable by the end of the year.

Hey, they won 25 games, beat #17 UK (LOL "fringe") and two teams that received votes in the final poll without their best player, and had everyone returning, plus swept ISU.

1) Kentucky was unranked prior to NCAA tournament - definition of fringe
2) Congrats on beating the worst team in the big 12 last year... real glaring accomplishment

UK started the year #4, at week ten they sat at #16, finished #17, and were a #5 seed in the dance. Hardly a fringe team. K-State was #9 seed and beat both higher seeded #5 and #8.

November/December rankings irrelevant until you play someone.

Way too much more time than i needed to spend on this topic. If you want to argue this further i'm just going to assume you don't know what fringe means.

You are so insistent on proving a minor point, my goodness, but nevertheless here are the weekly rankings - yours are wrong - check week one for comparison.

Wooh petty banter. I think the point is the KSU NCAA tourney run was attributed to some late season luck and a favorable draw.

This year maybe some of preseason expectations were misplaced and too high. Other than players being a year older, there were no major additions of significant, contributing talent.

Their defense has been great, but offensively they have really struggled. Still a tough team though.

Well, getting to now because yesterday is spent and the record formalized, right now K-State is just not much more than a midling B12 team and nothing like the E8 squad that finished last year. We'll see how it all plays out. Weber's a fine coach. We all know that. And the season is just about to start.

From 8 weeks to medical redshirt season is the best guess today. K-State will definitely go small-ball now. Sneed will move to four with Diarra sliding into his three slot.

To me the real question is:

Will this make Bruce move all the way out to the lane to coach or can he remain playing 5-10 feet in from the coaches box?

Kenpom is rarely a miss as a litmus test. Current sitting at the 3rd best team in the B12 and in the 17th spot. What Kenpom looks at is much more than RPI and SOS based upon that RPI, but how bad did we thrash those team. I don’t care about SOS if we rolled all of those poor teams by 30-40 points.

The RPI is trash. Glad the NCAA is replacing it with something closer to Kenpom.

RPI worked though. I think it's great that the NCAA has decided to utilize more advanced analytics but the new ranking system doesn't seem to put much into SOS. There has to be weight put into quality W's and bad losses or we will just be back to the old 20 wins and your in.
