I was told years ago, to back in as part of a drinking/driving fender bender prevention process. More sober upon arrival than departure.
The left lane thing is simple.... if you're not passing someone, get the F over to the right lane. And absolutely do NOT drive in the left lane with someone else next to you in the right lane going the same speed as you are... and blocking everyone behind you from getting through! Your speed is really irrelevant.... it's all about letting people by that want to go faster than you are.Like the people who absolutely lose their minds if someone in the left lane isn’t doing 90mph….
That's the person who will fly past you, get to the store, and then drive around the parking lot endlessly trying to find a spot close to the door.Like the people who absolutely lose their minds if someone in the left lane isn’t doing 90mph….
This is the central issue 100%.I don't mind people who back in, however the people who back in while someone is driving behind them and still back in, making that person wait, are the worst.
Might be better to not drive drunk.I was told years ago, to back in as part of a drinking/driving fender bender prevention process. More sober upon arrival than departure.
Those same people will bumble **** around when they're backing out of a spot, causing you to wait.I do it if no one is around. But if you back in and make people wait for you to bumble **** around you’re on the same level as the person that has a convo on speaker in a public space.
I do it just to p*ss my neighbors off...What is up with people that feel they HAVE to always back into parking spots? Any of you out there that can explain this? I have nothing against it, just find it odd and interesting.
I will say... I will try to find spots in parking lots where I can just "pull through" the spot and into the the spot opposite of it because it does make it easier to leave... but that doesn't require backing up into it.
We have neighbors on our street that ALWAYS back their vehicles up into their garage even. Have never seen them just pull in normally.
To add on to this, from a driving mechanics standpoint it is easier to maneuver into a perpendicular parking spot when backing in vs. pulling in. Anyone with a large truck can understand this. But not all parking situations are created equal. And not all operators are created equal, either. With trucks it’s a must in some parking lots. There isn’t enough space between the rows to pull in forward in one step. So I’ll often back in to be able to make the turn. Otherwise, I’m pulling in and backing back out to straighten up.
But even with our van if there’s traffic coming both ways and I can’t swing it wide to pull into a spot I’ll back it in.
With practice, it doesn’t take much time to back it in. It’s the people that don’t know what they’re doing that take a long time.
Ha! It actually doesn't affect me one way or the other... just was wanting to understand the reasoning behind it.I do it just to p*ss my neighbors off...![]()

Maybe, bad drivers are bad drivers, but the number of people I see who suck at backing in is 10x the number of people I see who can't back out of a spot.
Just come to one of our masses. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is more expert on backing into parking spots than us Catholics. You can hear the tires squealing as soon as communion is over.
(Note: this is harmless self deprecating humor that is not intended to cave this thread)
The difference is that we’ve conditioned ourselves to accept people that suck backing out of spots. If you see a car start to back out, you stop as a pedestrian or if your driving because you know they can’t see you. If those people were to continue driving or walking you’d see constant fender benders and people hit in parking lots. But there’s not the same complaining about having to wait for people to pull out of spots, just for people pulling into them. Just seems like people think their way is the only way and don’t like people who do things differently.
It's opposite for me. People that back in usually do it a lot so they are better at it. The number of sucky drivers there are in general is huge, and they usually will pull in because it is seen as "easier"Maybe, bad drivers are bad drivers, but the number of people I see who suck at backing in is 10x the number of people I see who can't back out of a spot.
