I don't really know. I do know that I would rather have Rudock back there for Iowa than Beathard. He's just more dangerous. Hopefully ISU can stop the run, get them into passing downs, and then get some pass rush on him.

Yes, he went 23-27 for 250 yds and 4 TD against them in 2012, which is more impressive than any start Beathard has ever had.

Don't forget the rushing TD Sam had in that game as well. He did it all in squashing Blue K State.

Seeing some chatter on Hawkeye Lounge and I thought this would be a good discussion from both sides. Who would you rather have: Beathard or Richardson?

Iowa fans are super confident in Beathard despite him throwing more than 10 passes in a game three times.

17/37 245 1 TD 1 INT @ Purdue W 24-10
13/23 145 2 TD 1 INT vs. TENN L 45-28
15/24 211 1 TD 0 INT vs. Ill St. W 31-14

He has a big arm, but he has looked erratic at times. Why are Iowa fans so confident he's better than Richardson? Kinda bizarre.

Are those the only games he has thrown 10 or more passes or completed them (or both)?

I'd rather see Beater. A gunslinger playing away from home in his first big time game is a recipe for ~50% passing with 3 INT's.

he did have Kansas on his schedule right? I think wins is a terrible argument to use, but that's not a vary good defense to use.

I agree wins is a terrible argument. I also would note iowa has the easiest power five schedule rated by others.

That's means there are many should win games on their schedule.

Thanks, Judoka. Your sensibility is beyond reproach. Heaven forbid somebody has a different opinion than yours.

CJ has skills, but he's riding the " not Ruddock" train now. To small of sample for me to pick him.

I wasn't replying because you had a different opinion, I was replying because smugly saying "0-15" is a very bad reason that shows somebody doesn't understand football.

This is a popular way to discount CJB's performance against Pitt, when he was brought in to start the 2nd half, completed 7 of 8 passes, led Iowa on three second half scoring drives and dug us out of a 10-point deficit in the first half to get the win.

Always makes me chuckle how hawk fan hyperbole convinces some Cyclone fans that the hawk player who has proven absolutely nothing is great. (Same fans that said we couldnt count on jc players..oops)

Beathard has looked bad more than he has looked good and the good was against a jh team. Tennessee anyone?

Beathard might end up being a good quarterback but he has shown absolutely nothing comparable to the numbers richardson has put up.

Until proven otherwise .... Richardson by a mile.

Beathard has looked good in a couple games. He has also looked lost in games. Anyone that throws out the 0-15 crap about Sam as a reason for him not being good is a moron. Have any of you guys seen the defensive floundering that he has to overcome to get a win? I think the word is still out on Beathard. Sam on the other hand has shown that he can be a pretty good QB most of the time. Not great, but pretty solid numbers. Neither one is on the Heisman watch, that is for sure.

Hard to judge CJ yet. In times he has played, he has made some absolutely fantastic throws, and some absolutely not fantastic throws. And in week 1, we were winning the ground game enough to not need to heave it much. However, in the first quarter and into the second, when it was still a game, he made some pretty good throws. He has a lightning quick release, a big arm, but still needs to be more accurate. Also, in the ISU game, he had a lot of passes, esp. in the late 2nd q, where he was throwing them away, or throwing passes into an area where either the WR was getting it, or no one was getting it. I never really saw him badly miss an open guy. This isnt to say I think hes amazing, but his stats from ISU werent quite as bad as they look.

That's true, but not the point of the thread. Thanks for the input.

You're welcome.

My point is the comparison will be a moot point if all Beathard has to do all game long is hand the ball off.

Richardson's best stat from last Saturday was zero picks. His sacks were coverage sacks. Beathard has shown a tendency to try and "force" a play when pressured. The Redbirds never really got to him. I really hope we can force iowa into some obvious passing situations and bring the heat. Jarnor Jones and Regan Northrup showed a knack for the quarterback shadow/delayed blitz.

He did miss a few throws pretty badly, possibly from miscues in communication with the WRs. Not a shock for week 1. Being up by so many scores limited the opportunity to throw for huge yardage and more TDs.
