From Director Zack Snyder,

Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry [Cavill's] Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retains the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him.

So there you go.

I think he'll make a pretty good Bruce Wayne, but I'm very skeptical of how good he'll be as Batman

Very solid point. He has a slight smugness about him that could be great for Bruce Wayne (Bale nailed this too). As far as the Batman stuff, I assume they can make him seem like a badass and I'm sure the action will be sweet. Oh and I personally loved Watchmen so I think Snyder can do something different from Nolan but still make it awesome. I haven't seen 'Man of Steel' yet though...

Meh, Im more than willing to eat crow on it, but its gonna take more than Zack Snyders opinion to sell me. He did make Sucker Punch after all.

That's why I'm holding out hope. It's pretty easy to make the Batman persona badass...I mean, it's Batman...

On the other hand, it might not be so easy to find someone who would be a great Bruce Wayne.

I'm sad that all these talented people keep getting tied down to these big blockbuster franchises. Maybe I'm just getting older and grumpy, but it's just sad that a man coming off directing an Oscar winner, and one that was a flat-out entertaining movie, is now going to sink a significant amount of his time into Batman for the foreseeable future.

I just don't care anymore. When it used to be one or two big superhero movies or something like Star Trek every summer I could get worked up about it. This summer all the big blockbusters just sort of blended together, and while I saw some I could really say I gave a **** about any of them. You know what they're going to be and what you're going to get at this point. It just doesn't matter who they cast. The real loss is the other projects that don't get made while talented people get paid to be buried under CGI and rubber suits.

They get made, but they dont necessarily get marketed or distributed. We never get any indie films here, there is a large group that wants it, but noone wants to take the chance.

I swear to god there was once a time when there was a middle ground between indie films and $300 million franchise movies that got made. These movies made it into theaters and people enjoyed them. Perhaps it was just a childhood fever dream.

And as far as indie films go, it seems like they've just become their own genre that would more accurately be called "movies about quirky mumblers".

I don't understand why people keep saying "b-but Christopher Nolan." Do you people not realize that Nolan is one of the producers of Man of Steel?

Saw Mud and Monsters recently. Good indie flicks. They can make more of those types.

There was plenty of backlash when Heath Ledger was announced as Joker too, and that worked out ok.
