This guy (in the middle) has had some pretty good info (believe he is tight with the Baylor AD) as this has all been taking place. Here is his latest:

This is just throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks.

Boise State just isn't Big 12 material. Even if you wanted to grade on a curve for potential. Even if you thought Big 12 presidents would approve of such a thing.

If that's where this is all headed, ISU football will be dead.

Nothing here sounds new to me other than the certainty with which he is saying Memphis and Boise State will get invites soon.

Adding those two and stopping at 14 is not the worst thing in the world if there is a good reason for it (some TV partner wants a league of that size or something).

He is just riffing about teams 15 and 16; I just don't buy it. There's a huge drop off after Memphis/Boise State to any other option. I know some of you would say Boise State already is the drop off but I don't agree that they are really that much different than Houston or Cincinnati.

We will see what happens but don't think it's just a weird coincidence that Boise St turned down the AAC recently.

Finally get a legit coach here and then get demoted to a mid major conference… sounds about right

on a brighter note, if this keeps spiraling down to this mess, we won’t have to worry about him staying when a big job comes along.

But aren’t We supposed to have a seat at the table, auto playoff slot, other conferences will look out for us?

We were promised this when people said this is the body blow that permanently relegates Iowa State to the minor leagues.

The 365 guys are more Baylor propaganda than real inside info. They NEED the Big12 to survive because that is option 1, 2, and 3 for them. So they pump it up like crazy. They also report on rumors and random tweets, speculation, etc as long as its pro Big12 and pro Baylor.

Bowlsby knows those teams arent going anywhere. The reason to flirt with them is in case the B1G or Pac12 grabs OSU, ISU, KU, etc. Then you have replacements lined up. Is that likely? No. But contingency planning.

Finally, its always good to look like you might be doing something. It puts pressure on other conferences and gives them something to think about. E.g. if the Arizonas are worried USC/UO might leave, but suddenly they arent sure if the Pac12 would have BSU/SDST available, well, maybe we should be talking to the Big12 too, just in case. You want to look like a predator, even if you might only be prey.

The state of North Carolina is culturally different in many pockets from "the South" and nowhere is this more true than the Triangle region that includes Chapel Hill. UVA and UNC are better cultural fits in the B1G than the SEC, before you even consider the academic prestige of either.
Well, the South is the South, pockets and all. Just like any region, there are all kinds of cultural differences within the region. University towns in the South are just as different from the rest of their region as University towns in the Midwest or any other region too. That being said, as a former resident of multple ACC (Virginia, Georgia and Florida), SEC (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Georgia) and B1G (Iowa, Illinois and Ohio) states, I would say that UVA and UNC most definitely would be a better cultural fit in the SEC than the B1G. The Wahoos and the Tar Heels might ulimately end up in the B1G. The University faculty might like it, but the fans throughout the two states will not like it one bit.

Any President or AD that votes yes to adding any of the other G5 teams right now should be fired on the spot. It’s shooting a fade away from 38 feet with 20 seconds on the shot clock. Maybe some of these teams become the best options or you need to get to 16+. But if you think there is any potential for instability in the PAC via poaching at the top, you absolutely wait to see how that shakes out.

I really like your last paragraph. I want to believe that’s part of it. At this point, I still have hesitations in my trust of Bowlsby so I’m waiting to see, and hoping.

Charlottesville and Chapel Hill are really not that similar to Knoxville, Gainesville, Tuscaloosa. They are much more culturally similar to Bloomington, Iowa City, Madison. Those SEC cities are not really cultural "pockets" in the same was that Chapel Hill/the Triangle is relative to much of Carolina. I have been to all 8 of these cities as well so we just disagree apparently and that's OK.

YIKES

If a third of what that guy says is true- the Big12 as a P5 conference is done. Adding Memphis, SMU and USF basically makes the Big12 a glorified AAC. It would be one thing if USF was actually in Miami!! Not sure how adding 2 Florida schools in Tampa & Orlando expand the Big12's reach. Same goes for SMU & TCU.

Hope Jamie & Wendy are working their Big10 & SEC connections hard.
Yeah...adding SMU and USF is not doing anything to solidify the Big 12...probably the opposite. On the other hand, adding Arizona and ASU might actually do some solidifying.

If I were Bowlsby, as far as expansion goes, my top priority would be finding out if the continually bantered about Arizona/ASU-are-unhappy-in-the-Pac-12 rumors are really true, and act accordingly. Tap into the resources and connections that the Big 12 presidents and ADs have, and figure this out.
