It would be interesting to see what number would look like if the Big 12 were getting those coveted time slots that the B1G gets.

Honestly, I was really against the 4 additions, but in reviewing the demographics, UCF, Houston were huge adds. BYU is a pretty big deal nationally and Cincinnati gives a lifeline to WVU. Solid add and will pay dividends down the road.

Somewhat skewed by bottom feeders. When you watch the weekly numbers, the top 4 SEC games can get 4mil+, the B1G, 3 mil+ and then the Big 12 usually tops at 2 mil unless in marquee time slot.

A lot of the bigger conferences suffer in numbers though with games like Northwestern, Indiana, Vandy, etc.

The question is do networks prefer big value games of 4mil or two games of 2mil?
I also wonder if those average viewership numbers are being skewed by the EPSN+/B12 Network numbers not being included in the averages. That would eliminate our bottom feeder games, while the B10 bottom feeder games on the B10 network would count against them.

The B1G is merely a mirage or perception. The viewership numbers are what they are. The B1G is brilliant at negotiating big TV contracts for their inferior product. I will give OSU, Mich their props as they are legit.... the rest of the conference (especially the west) is very dull and unwatchable football. Good cure for insomnia though.
I would agree a lot of the games are boring, but the networks aren't paying out Billions just based on get smooth talked - it's based on hard numbers. When you see the weekly numbers, the SEC and B1G are neck and neck at the top. Yes, the lower games get less viewers, but I'm guessing Tier 3 isn't in this.

While it would be interesting, the reality is they're going to get fewer going forward so it's meaningless.

As you move down the card I'm sure the viewership changes dramatically.

Are the networks paying for the average or the marquee matchups?

It’s easy to manipulate these things.

I think big ten probably is second overall but the bottom of the conference is super horrible for fandoms and that gets ignored.

I lived in Chicago 15 years and met one Illinois fan and two NW fans. The bottom teams in big 12 have radically more passionate fanbases than schools like those and Rutgers/Maryland.

Of course the big ten’s top 7 or so are huge juggernauts in terms of fan base.

Nebraska is probably a very overrated fanbase at this point. They can’t truly fill their stadium anymore, no casual fans would ever want to watch them on tv unless it’s the only game on or happens to be in espn, and their state has half the population of other tiny population states like Iowa, KS and OK. Their true fan interest is now more like ISU and ksu and below Iowa.

Getting the corner 4 kills the pac 12 but I would much rather have the ACC leftovers like VA tech, Pitt, Louisville, Georgia Tech etc. Would be great partners for Cincinnati and WVU, closer to UCF, and of course I think they care more about football.

This won't happen since their media deal lasts another 50 years or whatever but would be ideal imo

The Big 12, top to bottom, probably has similar stout fanbases. Their alumni/students/etc will watch Tech vs West Virginia just as much as Kansas State vs. Iowa State or Baylor vs TCU. All Big 12 stadiums are at the very least mostly full. Even Kansas has stepped up their attendance because their football team finally showed a pulse.

The same cannot be said for other conferences. Sure, they'll get huge numbers for Ohio State vs Michigan, but would they get good numbers for Rutgers vs. Maryland?

This is interesting. I do question if this is correct though. The B1G is number 4 (or lower) in viewership numbers? They have some huge fan/alumni bases. I know their Fox Big Noon Kickoff usually gets pretty large numbers (3-4 million+). I suppose the other games and especially those on the Big Ten Network could bring their average down quite a bit I guess.

Ok. Which one of you is this?

Good matchups will always garner some decent viewership numbers regardless of conference. The Big 12 top to bottom (for now) has some great matchup potential. The B1G, however, mostly has just a few watchable teams. The rest are garbage games and are good for shutting the TV off and getting other things done around the house.
After the ISU game last weekend, I flipped around the channels and got several B1G games... all of them were terrible and I literally shut off the TV and mowed the lawn. The Okie state-TCU game was light years better than any of those B1G games.
