I am going to get smoked for this, but I think he is making a huge mistake. I feel that Royce is exactly the kind of player that could come back and use that to move up in the draft. Players that come back and help themselves are typically the guys who have talent but need to refine some of their skills, exactly like Royce. I think if he came back, he could move up from top 20 to top 10, which would mean millions of more dollars for him over the next 5 years. Not only that, but he would spend a year being the darling of college basketball, which would be huge in building his brand (the Tebow effect), rather than being just another rookie in the NBA. That again could be worth millions to him in the future.

That being said, if his family is hurting financially and he doesn't want to see that anymore, I completely understand. If that isn't the case though, I really think he should come back.

I see where you are coming from but I bet he goes Top 20 this year.

John Walters nailed it. He could be a lottery pick with his skills...but he has some off-court issues to address. Once he meets with NBA teams and they get to know him, his stock will increase.

I don't think there's any question his stock is as high as it will ever be right now, but I'm not sure how they can project him into the first round yet.....there's all kinds of time for alot of people to declare. Who knows, guys like Sullinger have yet to declare which could push him out of the first round. I can't believe he isn't going to wait and see who all declares, and then collect the information on if he's still a first round pick.

Think Royce going in the draft will make players like Sullinger stay in college one more year. Royce > Sullinger. Time to get paid!!!

I don't think it is a huge mistake, but I personally think RW would benefit by coming back next year.

RW did great in the NCAA tourney against two teams that had never played him before. And he had some great Big 12 games. But he also had some not so good Big 12 games. The scouts will see it all. The pressure is on RW between now and the draft to show what he has and solidify a first round draft position.

I also disagree with those who suggest that the NBA drafts potential, and lacking skills don't matter because those can be developed in the NBA. The recent economics of the NBA have changed that. The NBA isn't a development league (that's why they started one). The coaching staffs are cut back, and they don't have time to do intense one-on-one skills development with players. The players have to do much of this on their own (hook up with outside trainers/coaches). You don't want to be one of those first-round guys with "potential" who is still bouncing up and down between the NBA and the D-League when your two-year contract is up.

Any chance that ROyce isn't actually going? SO far the only source is CBS... and then everyone linking to CBS. I'm hoping there's a small chance that they got it wrong...

Also, I think it's a big mistake on his part. Yeah the money is there, but stay one more year and you're a Top 10 pick. Late first round at this point for this years draft.

You're so clueless, thank god Royce doesn't care about what clones21 has to say. He's getting up there in age for an nba prospect (rs soph) and he could have easily tanked his stock like brackins did by staying an extra year. Royce did what he should have and, more importantly, what he needed to do for his family.

Way up there
I'm bummed to see him go but Good Luck to Royce, he's not completely NBA ready IMO but he's more polished than a lot of guys who get drafted strictly on potential. He had to strike while the iron was hot, you can't blame him for taking advantage of that and doing whats best for him and his family, you never know what can happen in a year. I'm really excited to see how he develops his game, he's one of the most unique players I can remember and is already one of my favorite NBA players!

No doubt, he is way more polished than the projected #5 pick Drummond, who Royce made look like a little girl.

Just saw this. I wish him the best of luck and thank him for the great memories.

Hopefully he ends up with a team that has a cool jersey.

Oh well, just gives us a taste of the one and done type of players Fred will hopefully be bringing in very soon. Thanks for the great year and good lucky to you, Royce!
