Yea, I'm mainly just afraid I can't get back to Iowa State in time depending on the surgery I am doing and its recovery time in relation to when I can get scheduled for it.

All that stuff can wait - this is number one on the list. So take it easy, tackle this task and the rest will fall into place - I promise!!

That sounds like the stuff I used last fall. It was called Suprep and you only drink like 16 ounces of the stuff each time, then follow up with a bunch of plain water. It tasted horrible and was difficult to chug down but had to have been better than drinking gallons of the stuff.

I'm 35 and had been having several issues which is why I had it done. I had to have an upper GI scope first (a few weeks earlier). Don't remember anything about that procedure. My doctor uses less sedation for the colonoscopy than the upper. I remember towards the end asking for my glasses back so I could watch the screen. It was kind of fascinating.

I've had to purge 3 times now and the Suprep (aside from costing me $70) is the absolute worst tasting stuff I've ever had.

Got back from the doctor and I am getting a colonoscopy soon and I'm gonna assume a good chunk of you guys here have had one. Yea its weird to do it at 19 but it needs to get done with my family history and I am having the same experience that my father had when he found out he had colon cancer.

Anyway... what can I expect? My father said his was vastly different because they found a tumor in the first turn, so it was cut short and it wasn't that bad...

You can follow my bowel movements starting here: http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/2915244-post58.html

Started drinking the stuff around 5pm (CDT) Thursday Night

Don't sweat it, I had to have one when I was only 16. The procedure itself really isn't too bad but the day before sucks. You have to pump yourself full of laxatives and aren't allowed to eat for 24-hours prior. Definitely not a fun time but there are plenty of worse things out there.

I would suggest one of the mods update the thread title to ******The Super, Mega, Huge Colonoscopy Thread***** It seems we have enough action here to keep this bad boy rolling along for a while.

Sooo I just came back. It was quick and easy, I stayed up the whole time and watched and it was actually incredibly interesting

Bad news is that they found stuff that requires surgery :frown:
When I had mine they found 3 polyps but removed them as part of the screening. Sorry you have to go back for surgery. Hopefully that goes well for you.

And I don't remember a thing from mine. Except waking up feeling a little cheap. The $20 someone left by the bed didn't help either. :wideeyed:

Good health is the key to a happy life. Iowa state and your friends will be around whenever you get your business sorted out. Good news they caught whatever it is before it snowballed.

2015, sorry to hear about your needing surgery, but glad that you are going to be able to get right on it.

They put me under for mine. Wish I had asked about the option to watch. Glad to report that it was "all clear" with me.

Thanks for starting this thread. It was helpful (and entertaining). 2015, you are always welcome at our tailgate. If you venture from the Student Lot, we tailgate right next to Hilton.

Thanks, 2015, for pioneering this thread. I go in the week after next. Best wishes with your future treatment.

Question regarding the sedation aspect. They said something about not being able to drive for a day or so after the procedure. Procedure is early in the a.m. and I have class that evening. Can I plan on attending class that night or are you pretty much out of it 'til the next day? TIA

Thanks man, I will definitely hit you up on that offer one of those games. I usually don't go out to the student lot because I usually get in line super early to get front row, so I stick to the main lot and see if I can find someone I know.

I thought I was fine to drive in the evening but they told me not to do anything. Definitely right after the procedure you're kinda out of it, but after I took a nap I thought I was good to do anything.

Thanks for all the support guys. I meet with a surgeon tomorrow to discuss the possible surgeries and their effects, dangers, all that jazz.

Everybody handles sedation differently and I believe they tell you this for liability reasons. I felt fine after my procedure and felt like I would have had no problem driving home. Trust your own judgement but personally I think you will have no problem going to a class that evening. I had my procedure at 11am and I am pretty sure I was out and about later in the day.

I'm usually set up as soon as the Hilton Lot is scheduled to open (and sometimes even before), so you are welcome to hang out.

Today, I just designed a new bags game, called "Overtime" that has rules to allow two players compete like the overtime for a college football game. It is a little tricky, so it probably won't work well if guys have been drinking a lot.

The worst part is the prep. I mixed my Mirolax with 2 liters of ginger ale. Not bad at all.

The advice about baby wipes was really helpful.

"bum"p. On my way in Monday morning for one for the first time. I will start the drinking on Sunday. We did Easter dinner today (a day early), but now I am worried that this was a mistake that will lead to a lot more prep "work"

It shouldn't be a problem. The solution that you will be drinking will clean it all out. Had mine done mid-February and the experience wasn't bad at all. Doing the solution is the hardest part! My test results turned out A-OK. I also had the endoscopy done at the same time and it turned out showing no problems also.

Drinking the 64 ounces of Gatorade and Miralax (sp) was the worse part of the whole thing

That is an easy prep. First time I did it, I had to drink a gallon of this thick salty crap. 8oz every 10 min. After the first hour it got really hard. After the second hour it was all I could do to not throw it up.

I've got family history of colon cancer & personal history of frequent polyps also - seems like there's more of us than we realize. For a five year period in my mid forties, I had to have one every 6-8 months...blerg! On one of them I got a little crazy and had my hubby draw a smiley face sideways on my right cheek so that it was right in the doc's face when they rolled me over. I remember them laughing as I was drifting off. That night when we were heading for bed hubby told me there was a second one on my left cheek. :)

On my most recent round last Jan the nurse gave me a great suggestion that I haven't seen here yet. Drink the mixture quickly through a straw. The less it touches your tongue (& taste buds) the easier it is to get down. Doesn't make the *ahem* end result any easier, but that's why you buy the baby wipes!
