I learned tonight that some idiots enjoy the role of being an idiot.

Among questions that CW should have asked and probably didn't: "What game will Erik play in?"

I have it in an e-mail from Fred himself, in his words, that "I'll try and get him in the game if the score dictates!"

Since that's like a verbal contract, I'd like to know what game my PT happens.
For all the years I've whined about our noncon schedule, I'm hoping that we play Grinnell or someone small. I don't care who, just someone that we crush. I want to pretend this is actually going to happen.

Not if we lose someone else it isn't. Kane is about the equivalent of Bubu or Naz Long IMO. So if we lost one of those two it would be about a wash bringing him in. I know people will say I'm crazy to think that Bubu or Naz are as good as Kane, but they very well could be. What would Bubu or Naz do in the MAC Conference. Probably tear it up pretty good.

And other scholarship players on our team, if they were to not be here, would be a net loss IMO with the addition of Kane. And no, I'm not saying Kane isn't a good player that I'm glad we got, I'm just comparing him to others on scholarship.

Losing a Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, or SDW would be a MUCH bigger net loss IMO, just to the fact that these 3 have 4 years of eligibility remaining and look to have very bright futures. Niang and Ejim aren't even in the debate whatsoever. Losing either of those two would be catastrophic.

And according to Fred himself, all 4 JUCO's are going to be here. So we know it's none of them.

All I'm saying is that the addition of Kane is awesome, as long as we aren't losing anyone else. If we are losing someone else, I could possibly be a net loss, or at best a wash IMO.

...and this is a perfect example on why we (msg board posters) don't speculate on who that could be. Let the chips fall and

KCLFC.

In his career he averages 15.1 points a game, 4.4 rebounds and 7 assists.
In 7 career games against Memphis (not your typical conference usa team) he averages 17.2 pts, 5.3 rebounds and 3 assists.
All that I needed to do was to go back and check the box scores of the 3 games that he played as a soph against LE's Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles team.

Of course I wouldn't have even needed to do that if I had simply reminded myself that Fred knows what he is doing.

Last year alone...11 games with 8 or more assists (7 games with 10+). Had a triple-double and scored 33 points in that game.

This is so dumb it's sig worthy. If he wasn't better than bubu or naz the staff wouldn't waste the time recruiting him.

A transfer from a crappy conference (like the MWC or CUSA) could never do better than a B12 recruit. That's why SDW and Okoro started over Clyburn last year. What a waste of a scholarship.

He had some great offers coming out of high school. He's done fantastically well at Marshall. He had a number of big programs pursuing him when he was looking to transfer out of Marshall. And some of us (one of us) are (is) unsure about whether he'll bring in anything we don't already have?

Didnt this guy dispatch WVU last year? They are in the big 12, so that would qualify as "big 12 competition." Results were similar for his games against other high major teams. The guy can play.

Yup. A coaches job is to always try to recruit over the existing talent. If Fred can get a guy that would start over Ejim, Niang, etc - he would.

This hand wringing over Kane has been both pathetic and ccomial.

I guess I missed Bubu(previous years), Naz, and everyone going off in non conference... Against similar or worse competition than Kane played.

Kane is going to start on this team or at very worst be 6th man with or without anyone leaving. He's an upgrade no matter how you try to spin it, especially over Bubu and this team desperately needed a good veteran guard. Ejim, Niang, Morris, Thomas, and SDW aren't going anywhere. I hope no one else is either, but Kane is in no way going to be a downgrade.

I know you know this and you're just trolling, but you're an idiot.

I'm sure Kane is a good player, and I'm glad he's here no matter what the situation is. I've already said that over and over again. I always trust Fred.

And to be clear, I've NEVER said that I didn't think Kane wasn't a good player either. Whether or not someone else is leaving doesn't change my mind whatsoever on bringing in Kane. It's a great idea to bring him in no matter what the case. As I've said, if someone's leaving, he helps fill a void. If not, it's even better. So it's good no matter what.

All I've ever said is that I can't make a judgment on whether or not adding him will upgrade the talent level on this team if I don't know if we're losing someone else or not? Adding Kane and losing SDW for instance is not necessarily an upgrade IMO. That's all.

Hey, guys -- congrats on a strong off-season, capped off with the signing of Kane. You'll be tough this year, and I can't wait to play you again with a very different WVU team that will hopefully be more up to the challenge. We'll see how our recruits pan out.

Not sure I'd go so far as to say Kane dispatched us, though. We did beat them by 10 after all (which is nothing to brag about, I admit). I do think he's a good pick-up for you though.

Good luck, and we'll see you when the season rolls around!

How will your guard play be next year? I see you brought in a lot of talent at the PF position for next year
