ISU does an absolutely horrible job of marketing MBB to students, in my humble opinion.

Cell phones do have a lot to do with it too, everyone checking them during timeouts.
I tend to check scores during the long timeouts, but why not. Everyone sits down at that point and the place gets dead silent while they watch flex cam or a stupid CAC game.

I do too.

I guess I think outside of games with Kansas, Iowa and the game with Michigan, we do nothing to market the games as can't miss events. There's no huge rivalry with Oklahoma, Kansas State or the like, and to the bandwagon fans (which we want) its just another game.

Please explain what CA does that makes it less fun?

For me, I saw nothing wrong with not having CA. Student attendance was great (lets not forget the students used to have both side balconies), it was always loud, absolutely nothing wrong.

Then all the sudden you had to join a club to get the good seats, you had to wear what they told you to wear, and you had to pay extra money so you could get lame props. It was just a bad idea from the start, and all it has done is evolve into something that its not necessary.

Anyone who was around for the 03-04 season will tell you that the non CA side was more fun, more loud, and more rowdy than the CA side, and the non CA side always filled up faster.

I do agree that CA is unnecessary, but in it's current form I can't think of a single thing they do that would explain students who buy tickets but don't go to games.

It's the easiest excuse to lean on with it being 2014, and yes, things do change.

CA isn't the reason for 1000 students not showing up to these games. Could it be for a few? Absolutely. But if you got rid of it, I would bet the increase in attendance for these non-KU/OSU conference games wouldn't be noticeable.

You've got good points.
I'd attribute these gaps more to a general lack of interest, which bugs me because it doesn't fit my own preference, which is basketball.

I wasn't arguing that, just pointing out that I have never liked CA. Attendance is down all over the country, ISU's attendance is well above average. Take a look at the amount of empty seats tomorrow in Stillwater for a prime time game between 2 top 15 teams.

I think we're all on the same page here. We all hate CA, think it's pointless, and wish it didn't exist. Basically, things have just changed, and the general student interest just isn't what it used to be for a number of reasons that don't make sense to any of us, which really annoys all of us on here because its essentially our number one priority.

This is a major university. Engineering school to boot. The technology used in this world is mind blowing. Yet, nobody can figure out a solution to these empty seats? There must be a way. I asked a parent if their college student (goes to another college but loves Iowa State ) was coming to the game yesterday. She said he would have but he didn't have a ticket. Then I see half of the upper level of student section vacant. Not blaming anyone. If students with tickets don't want to go , then why do they get access to the tickets? Figure out a way.....must be some solution out there.
