Departures?

Usually weed is a 1 game suspension during whenever u get caught really doesn't matter I don't think. As for it being possibly Joshua...we did sign a real big back who I think is going to be a complete stud one day..and also have Croney who RS..although not sure how healed his hand is. I'm not too worried about losing a short yardage back. Although he was a talented kid.
We also need to find a pooch punter. Does anyone have a list of suspected people who left the team early yet. Sounds like we are up to seven or more so far.

Let's just not go with the whole "addition by subtraction mantra" again. We've been down that road before and we should know it's best to take a wait and see approach. Campbell's recruiting class was a bargain considering how much time he had to pull it all together. The sad part is the number of players he recruited shows you he wasn't real impressed with the current roster. The same roster that many fans have been talking up the past couple of years. Let's not put the cart in front of the horses this time. I'm all about winning so if it works out I won't really care, but I have to admit it still gives me an uneasy feeling knowing that kids are likely getting pushed out.

I'm guessing a lot of these players are quitting on there own

Interesting first post?

Of course Coach Campbell "wasn't real impressed with the current roster." He has stated that he saw crucial gaps, like having two scholarship QBs. He has also stated that he really doesn't know what he has because he hasn't seen them practice (until this week). Right now, it seems to be mostly a matter of players self-selecting to transfer (Rohach) or doing something stupid ("JT"), not really "addition by subtraction." Further, Coach Campbell said that no athlete's scholarship will be put in jeopardy.

That said, it does look like there is a new sheriff in town. Several personnel changes are in progress. Conditioning requirements may be a driver; attitude required may be a driver; wanting to win more may be a driver.

There's no way to sugarcoat what happened the last three years (8-28). The old staff proved to be quite poor at retaining and developing talent in the program (look at all the attrition last year at this time). I feel bad for kids who came to ISU and weren't/aren't able to stay for four years. That's not on the new staff, that's on Rhoads and his guys. If we see a bunch of turnover two years from now, then that's a different story. From what I've seen, Campbell has laid down markers about going to class and working hard on and off the field. If guys don't buy into that, they probably should go someplace else.

Iowa State announces WR D'Vario Montgomery and RB Joshua Thomas are no longer on the team.

Montgomery dismissed for violation of team rules. Thomas has decided to leave and transfer to another school.

Thomas transferring and Montgomery was dismissed from the team. I wonder what Montgomery did.

"I'll tell you one thing, these guys look the part!!"

Didn't Thomas have the most touchdowns by a RB in a season for us last year since Ryan "put the Kock in the hole" in 2005? And he had some nice runs in the Baylor game. Sucks to lose that guy. Yeah we might have signed some more talent but Thomas had a year of Big 12 experience and he and Warren were starting to form a little thunder/lightning combo that could have been productive for 3 more years.

Next man in I guess.

Anyone know what happened to Holden Kramer? Not on scholly, but he's now on the team anymore.

My understanding is that he wanted to focus on school (smart kid) and really liked having CPR as a coach. No plans to leave ISU.

It would be hard for a walk-on to spend 300+ days a year working out and only get to play a few plays a year.

Definitely not a good thing. I also kinda liked the idea of Warren and Thomas as the thunder & lightning combo. This leaves us pretty thin at RB unless Croney is healed up and/or the true freshmen are ready to play (which isn't out of the question).

I'm a little more "meh" on Montgomery. He was probably the second most talented receiver on the team, and it would've been nice to see him turn the corner, but at the same time, I wouldn't have been shocked to see one of the younger guys beat him out for the starting job.

Just looking at the roster we have a couple big backs that might produce given a chance.

Justin Webster might be a guy to look for. Looks like he was a 3 star out of high school, sat out last year due to injury. Listed at 6'1 230, although he looks like he sat out a while due to injury, definitely had some speed looking at his profile.

Of course there is Croney coming off redshirt, so I think we can find a solid short yardage back with the guys on roster.

I must be in the minority but I don't think we'll miss Thomas much, if at all. Guy needed 2-3 touches on the goal line half the time. Had no vision. Warren will be a workhorse, and the RS freshmen this year will contribute. Experience does not always mean better.

Shall we shift the discussion over to the thread with the more general title?

Departures so far include:

Jake Rhoads
Grant Rohach
Joshua Thomas
D'Vario Montgomery

Who else?
